Who is still using the PS3 as their main Blu ray player?

Just looking at the ending credits of my amazon.de Dark Knight Blu-ray steel...

Superb PQ. In fact the SD DVD upscaling capabilities of the PS3 impress too. I put the DVD copy of TDK in to test beforehand and it looked fantastic. Ditto in a DVD v BR comparison with Casino Royale... just as well I am limiting my BR collection and keeping my DVD's :rotfl:

The one minus is the fan noise but during playback I have the speakers up :p

About to get my first Blu-Ray player, being a gamer I'll probably look at getting a PS3 - I did wonder if a dedicated player would be better, but by the sounds of it the PS3 is still a good option.

I paid £280 for a 320 Gb Slim, with move controller pack. Even at that price for the BD & upscaling it is a very good video player IMHO, never have we been so lucky in cost ratios to performance video wise. Video performance BD/SD upscale is easily comparable to any £100-300 BD deck IMHO, quite stunning really.

I am still using my original chunky PS3 as my blu ray player.

I've been looking on Richer Sounds and they have some Pioneer and Sony Blu Ray players going cheap.

However are any of them actually any better than the old PS3.

What players out there at the moment are better? without spending say over £500 on one.

I use my PS3 for Region B discs, and either my Bush or Technika for Region A's. Works fine for me for now, until the day I buy the gorgeous Oppo BDP-93 that is (which won't happen for a while!).

I still use it but only because I don't want to upgrade until I get a 1080P TV.

Myself and a mate bought identical Sony TV's at the same time a while back. I already had the PS3 so he bought a BDPS370. Straight away it seemed to me the picture quality with his was slightly better as was the upscaling. The noise of my 80GB PS3 is a distraction too.

I haven't read any reviews in a while but I'd be massively surprised if the PS3 PQ hasn't been bettered by players now in the £100 - £150 bracket.

If you here the fan kenni , then you have to crank up a bit.:)
And, after having both the denon and philips I mean the ps3 still is a great player on BD. On dvd the story is another, and the 9600 is great, but I have not bought ore rented a dvd since we got the ps3. All BD, so for me that part of a bd stand alone player is not important.
As I, and those I had over to watch with me could not se anything worh upgrading for in PQ when watching BD on the philips/ denon vs the ps3.
Maybe the tv set play a role here? I have the 46c755 samsung lcd. Maybe I would se a difference if I stil had my old 40M61 set ?

have a look at the pic's.

It's only during the 'talkie' scenes where I hear the fan. Can't go any louder or it's mental when the action starts again:D

It's not a really loud fan roar though, just an obtrusive fan hum.

You mention the TV, must admit I've never been entirely convinced I've seen it at it's best for some reason. 32" 720 Sony KDL 32V4000. Longing for the days of 1080p:blush:
