I am now on the verge of buying either a Panasonic 42PV500 or Hitachi 42PD7200. Have seen them both running at John Lewis in Bluewater and now have to decide.

As there are so many threads detailing the problems with the Panasonic PV500 I though that I would rather ask everyone a more direct question. Are there really any happy owners of the Panasonic? If you were given another chance would you change your selection?

This is really helping me make a decision and getting the unit quickly!!!

As so many people have said, you wont go far wrong with either model. Me, I went for the PV500, and do not regret it for a second. Have not noticed any problems with it so far, though I have only had it a couple of weeks.
The hitachi is a nice set and is selling for under 2 grand at the minute.
I was in the same predicament, but what swayed it for me in the end was the fact that the panny has a built in freeview tuner and an sd card reader. Now I dont need to try and explain to my wife how to connect the digital camera up. It was as simple as that.

Chedmaster why are you so annoyed? These forums take time to view and digest? Surely this is an open set of forums that are there to encourage debate on AV related issues.

So what if I did not find the other thread on the Panny issues? If this has annoyed you so much why did you read it in the 1st place?

Having said that, I do apologise to the others for not having seen the other thread....

The issue is that many newbies to the forum could be excused for believing that Panasonic are the only makers of plasma TVs. I know folks consider me partly to blame for this! However, I don't start threads every day with 'PV500' or PW7 in the title! I just respond if I've got something to say. When I was a newbie (those were the days) I think I read all for several months before making a post at all! 99% of new threads have been answered before if the search function is used, but then I suppose what would we talk about? :offtopic: Bit cold for the time of year!

This thread could almost be named the Panasonic forum - and if things go on as they are it could be renamed the Panasonic 500 forum. Its curious because although I think i am right in saying that Panasonic currently have the largest global market share, they don't have anything like a dominant position, either globally or in the UK with regard to plasma sales.

For those of us who have chosen not to go down the Panasonic route, this forum is becoming less interesting, informative and useful. Perhaps we could have another forum entitled 'Anything but Panasonic Plasmas'.

Even I'm beginning to see it your way! PV**** should perhaps be added to the swearing filter for a week or 2 to give us all a rest. Having said that, it was pretty much like this when the Pioneer 434, then the 435 were released. Funnily enough, loads on the same issue there, PC connections!

    ...or a sub-quality Panasonic forum :D

Even generally being a Panasonic Plasma advocate the amount of guff and PV500 threads has been ridiculous to say the least.

Gods Plasma (!?), Have you taken off your HDMI sticker, unpacking my box.....I'm just waiting for the *hey this is a bit of the polystyrene that came in the PV500 box what do you reckon guys ?* thread to come along. :lease:

I appreciate the panny 500 is the bizz :smashin:
But it has definitely overtaken the forum.
And yes MAW, I do mostly blame you.
It's not a problem in itself.
But can I ask, what is your job and who do you work for????.
If you work for or franchise to, Panasonic, there is a definite problem.
If you are not in the trade or are independent, keep saying what you think, no problem :smashin:
If that sounds harsh, it's not meant too, I'm just aiming at keeping the forum neutral

LOL! I get the percentage I can on each deal, mate. We all have a living to earn. TBH I don't make much on plasma, nobody does. I charge for fitting, programming, networking, systems integration etc. That's where my living comes from. Sometimes, I have to sell plasma itself at cost to get the deal, as folks like RGB etc price them so low, getting a huge kickback from Panasonic etc. I just can't compete as an independent. But then they don't come and install powerstrip and set it up, or make your system play a particular album with 1 touch of your remote.

Ekko, i posted a similar response, it seems to have calmed down now as the boys are sick of their toys :)
The new Panny sure seems to have its faults though, back to the drawring board i presume ;)

Actually I think Panny should for consistencies sake name all their consumer plasma as PE series rather than PV. Considering the amount of "Premature Ejaculation" it's aroused it seems more than apt don't you think ? :D :D
