Which actor/actress could you listen to, even just reading the phone book.
Who sends shivers down your spine just listening to them, or chills you out with just a few words.

Top one's for me would be:

Richard Burton - just makes the War of the Worlds album

Patrick Stewart. The guy is sooooooo smooth.

James Earl Jones. Thank God they dubbed David Prowse with this guy. Impressive.

    On the ladies...

Kathleen Turner, just one of the sexiest voices ever. Esp. as Jessica Rabbit

    Kirsty Alley. See above.

Henry Kisinger (spelling might be a bit dodge) the American diplomate, nobody has a deeper natural voice than him.

And just to put a bit more spice into it...

Whose voice really grates on your nerves? The two that spring to mind immediately are Adam Sandler, with his whiny weeny voice and Melanie Griffith with her breathless baby-doll voice. Grrrr.

Favourite voices: Tom Baker, Joss Ackland, Ian Richardson, Anton Lesser, Christopher Lee (in his prime).

Cate Blanchett and Liv Tyler both sounded rather lovely speaking elvish, I thought.

Sexiest voice I have heard recently is the lady who plays Dina in the current series of "24" - I can't help feeling they decided to call her son "Behrooz" just because it would make her sound really breathy and husky every time she said the name. :)

Most annoying voice has to be that horrible woman from "Chasing Amy".

    Carry Grant.

    Possibly the hardest to immitate.

Jack and Bobby Kennedy rang him during a difficult time in the oval office purely to hear the sound of his voice.

Worst voice - Fran Drescher from "The Nanny" and Chris Evans (ok it's not offensive to the ears, but everytime you hear him it just makes your blood boil)

Agree with some of the selections already chosen.

Cate Blanchett - lovely in Lord of the Rings :) better than Liv Tyler :)

Richard Burtons narration in WOTW was top draw stuff, awesome.

John Cleese and Stephen Fry (Who is currently providing the voice for The Guide in 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy'), both for their typically English accents

Sean Connery for his distinctive Scottish Accent

Also Anthony Hopkins has a wonderful distinctive voice:

Since when has a Corstorphine accent been disctinctive?? Maybe if you're from Medway, I suppose.

If you are going to pick a Scottish accent....at least pick one which isn't a bastardisation of the Gaelic tongue moulded to suit English ears.

Laurence Olivier's narration in The world at war; hard to imagine the series without his vocals.

The worst? In microbiology we have a term used for counting colonies on agar plates: tmtc. Too many to count. But I agree with a post above: Fran would be in there.

Don LaFontaine. The guy that does ALL the movie trailers - him with the gravel voice of what sounded like 100 Marlboro a day. I remember seeing him in a programme about 10 years ago and he was making over a million dollars a year just from doing voice overs for movie trailers.

Don't recognise the name - but that programme sounds familiar, was he shown doing the voiceover for the "Eraser" trailer?

May well have been, but I cant remember. They reeled of a load of movies he'd done and the list was amazing. He's probably the most famous voice in the world and nobody knows who he is or what he looks like.

some more info on him here

    Who else...?

Somebody mentioned Richard Burton - have to agree that he was splendid in Under Milk Wood.

Keith Hamilton Cobb (who used to play Tyr Anasazi in Andromeda) also has a rather fascinating voice, I think. James Earl Jones has been mentioned already....

I remember quite a few years ago seeing a TV-ified version of an RSC production of Othello with Imogen Stubbs as Desdemona, Ian McKellen as Iago, and Zoë Wanamaker as Emilia. None of those three were particularly interesting, vocally speaking, but Othello himself was played by Willard White who is actually rather better known as an opera singer than as an actor. But I remember him having the most amazingly resonant speaking voice of the sort that only black people ever seem to be blessed with. Delightful to listen to.

I'm quite partial to Derek Jacobi too.

Most annoying male voice is probably Woody Allen.

Oh, and another truly annoying female is the woman who played Trillian in the TV version of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.

Talking of HHGTTG reminds me that one of the sexiest female voices around back then was Rula Lenska. Joanna Lumley is also very pleasant on the ears when she's trying.

    Orson Cart......sorry, Welles.

Alan Rickman's voice is one I find kinda relaxing.

As has already been said Honor Blackman and okay so she's not an actress but Mariella Frostrup.
