WHITESNAKE RETURN WITH THE PURPLE ALBUM

First New Studio Album In Four Years Set For Release in May Via Frontiers Music SRL

Rock icons Whitesnake are set to return with their 12th studio album this spring. The Purple Album will be released in Europe on May 15th and in North America on May 19th via Frontiers Music SRL. The Purple Album is a re-imagination of classic songs from David Coverdale’s time as the lead singer for Deep Purple’s Mark 3 and Mark 4 studio albums. The album is currently available for pre-order in various configurations on Amazon: a standard edition (The Purple Album by Whitesnake: Amazon.co.uk: Music), a deluxe edition (The Purple Album by Whitesnake: Amazon.co.uk: Music) featuring 2 bonus tracks, 4 music videos and a Behind The Scenes featurette on the recording of the album and in a double LP vinyl format. Plans are also underway for a special limited box set edition with memorabilia and merchandise. All details will be announced soon.

“It’s a tribute. A homage. It’s a huge thank you from me to Deep Purple for the opportunity I was given over 40 years ago,” states Coverdale. “As I said to Ritchie, you guys set me on an incredible journey that continues today and I couldn’t have asked for better teachers. The University of Deep Purple was an extraordinary, amazing school to learn from. We can’t wait to play these songs in concert!”

From the opening notes of the classic track “Burn,” to album closer “Stormbringer,” Whitesnake are back and better than ever. Songs like “Lady Double Dealer,” “Soldier of Fortune” and “Sail Away” are given a new energy in the very capable hands of the current Whitesnake lineup featuring David Coverdale on vocals, Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra on guitars, Michael Devin on bass and Tommy Aldridge on drums.

The tracklisting for The Purple Album is:
1) Burn
2) You Fool No One (interpolating Itchy Fingers)
3) Love Child
4) Sail Away
5) The Gypsy

WHAT!! No Doug Aldrich on guitar in the current line up.

The whole thing sounds fudgeed to me. Awful cover of his own song, sounds more dated than the original with a poor attempt at a late 80s Whitesnake makeover, as his voice seems totally shot now. Lord replaced by some rubbish shredding, and Hughes replaced by multitracked or autotuned Coverdale.

Couldn't stand Purple MKIII anyway. So, a past it Coverdale making over naff tunes from his Purple days seems a fitting tribute to his excess. Saw Whitesnake back in the early 1980's, binned their albums and never listened to them again since.

The guys in love - with himself.

Have to agree, sounds crap. Saw Whitesnake twice, on the Trouble tour when they were very good and then on the tour just after Saints and Sinners which was awful. Bought all their albums up to Ready and Willing but these days never play them. Saw MKIII Purple when I was 15, totally blew me away. Blackmore was one of the best guitarists I have ever seen.

Saw them on the 'Ready and Willing' and 'Come and get it' tours. I let them off with the first one as a 'bad day', but when they were just as bad the second (and third - I was persuaded to go twice!) times on the latter tour, that was more than enough for me. Absolute corny crap. Saw Blackmore with Rainbow, excellent as you say.

Yup, spot on Krish, he's ruined it! Unnecessarily speeded up, off key at times, and with odd chord changes. Why?

I just wish DC would either retire gracefully, or do songs that suit his voice! Go back to Northwinds era, bluesy-style stuff. The missus wants to see him on tour this year, but there's no way I'm chucking $80+ to go and listen to him struggle through every track.

I've heard a couple of tracks from this album on Planet Rock and they sounded a complete mess to me. Awful.
