That's because that "unique sound" that White Stripes have is actually nothing more than the noise that comes out of every schoolboy's bedroom when they're "rehearsing with their band" for the first time and are just starting to try to write songs. Hotel Yorba's gotta be the epitomy of this rubbish. Give 'em another 10 years and then they might be at the same stage that other bands are at when they're signed to a record label. Then White Stripes might actually write something that was worth the Rizla they scrawled it on. Believe me, I have very wide tastes when it comes to music and I also play a little myself, so I'm loathe to call any music utter rubbish, but when I hear White Stripes, all I can hear is that "sound of the bedroom" and the feint laughter of an A&R man that signed a band while he was high on crack 'cause he thought "it'd be a laugh". They really are utter, utter garbage.Originally posted by kmg

I saw the White Stripes at Reading Festival last weekend, and they were very good live.

Sorry squirell God I didnt think it would affect you so much, remember the hype when Pink Floyd became every bodies interest, now Im not comparing the White stripes to Floyd, just give them a chance, they are different and not to everyones liking, but just hang in there. Not everybody is into "Shakira" are they!!!
In response to both of the above comments and just for the record, I don't like overproduced music either. My "assault" on White Stripes is nothing to do with their "raw" sound (I like early Rage Against the Machine and Incubus, for example) nor is it about comparing White Stripes to musical genius (e.g. Mozart). It's to do with their immature song writing and pathetic playground rantings - nothing else.Originally posted by karkus30
Squirrel God, you really dont like this very much. See, thing is Im sick of the overproduced sound from most of todays bands.
Most bands are sticking pseudo scratches, beeps and whistles onto records. This is a very live, raw sound, just like playing in a bedroom, thats great it rocks. You dont need complex jazz chords and time signatures, strange lead guitar scales and multi, multi tracking to make good basic music.
If you want brilliant music try Mozart, fantastic stuff, but difficult to rock out to , I think you will find.
Iggy pop had the same sort of raw sound, great stuff.
They are part of the rubbish that gets released.Originally posted by Wilf
I like the White Stripes. Its got more balls than most of the rubbish that gets released.
I think she's okay. Her earlier albums were better than her more recent ones though. Really liked the Sugarcubes as well.Originally posted by karkus30
