white pixel problem

was in comet today talking about the PX70, they started saying that the JL 5 year guarantee isnt worth the paper its written on, especially compared to their cover.

Guy was telling me its very easy to get a white pxel on plasma tvs and that comets cover will simply replace the tv where JL's guarantee means this wont happen.

Any thoughts?

This is the 1st time I have heard of this problem.

lol obviously Comet will do all they can to get your business over John Lewis.

Never believe a word a sales person says to you.

You just try and Comet to replace anything!!!!

Comet even buy the manufacturers warranty to get the product cheaper, you can no longer even call the manufacturer direct with a problem, you have to call Comet and their techs always say "within spec...blah....blah....blah...."

I have bought all my laptops from John Lewis as I use them for 12-15 hours a day and you get the extended warranty, and have to say I have never had a problem. I have had 4 replacements over the last 3 years.

I wouldn't buy a plug from from Comet, let alone a TV!!

yeah, the price difference is too much to make it viable anyway but was just a bit worried about this white pixel issue the salesman kept mentioning.

i wasnt going to buy from there anyway & told him the PM I am looking at with JL but had never even heard of this issue before.

The White Pixel issue was just a test to see how gullible you were.

You should have told him you are a Plasma technician and never heard of it :D

Watch his face go red then

i did start laughing & he started getting bit flustered, he took me to see a reject one that they were cheekily selling for knock down price.

Comet told me that the main benefit of their extended warranty vs JL was that it covered accidental damage. Perhaps so but so does my home insurance. So, off to JL I went to buy my PX70, saving £300 vs the Comet price with extended warranty.

Correct I do get peed of about people saying there extended warranties covers accidental damage... As most of us with home insurance have Contents insurance which covers this, but do check with your insurance thou.

But for me I never had claimed for anything as of yet touch wood. But if you do claim on your house insurance the policy goes up i believe. So having a extended warranty and doing a claim wont effect your home insurance policy.

But I believe some home insurance handle claims differently.. But I still would not PAY for Extended warranties at all I always go to JL Price Match and take advantage of Free warraties...

My rants out of the way ha ha

JL have always been good to me. All of their electronics have a minimum of 2 years warrantee. JL also treat their staff very well and their are all shareholder in the company.

As for Comet/Currys/Dixons, I would not buy anything from them either. I notice they still do the 're-gassing service' (POS signs still have the gas canister plugged into a plasma), from knowing what they do, they just increase the contrast and brightness and make images more vibrant and charge something like £150. I worked in hi-fi retail for 1.5years, customers would come in complaining that Dixons charged them so much for this 2 yearly service which they were sold when they bought their TV, and then the screens came back all scratched.

As for price matching. TV prices change monthly. Independent retailers will change the price every month accordingly, Dixons will wait for a sale period and advertise '20% off', when in fact the normal retail price is still lower. Average Joe will not shop to specialist retailers or custom install businesses, they just go to the high street brand, so they are not aware of the price differences.
