White dashes along top of screen

My guess is that the dashed line you see is part of the teletext information transmitted on that channel. These lines are normally hidden above the 'viewable frame'. If these lines are not present on all channels and all programs then its not a fault on your TV. It's at the source.

Normal, non HD, analogue TV transmission is 625 lines. However, what you actually view is less than 625 line. I cant remember what the actual number is. Lest say for argument sakes that the actual number of lines viewed is 615. The rest of the lines above the 'viewable frame' contain teletext information.
