Has anyone out there had problems with the Mustek DVD 600R home theatre unit?
I bought one recently and was reasonably impressed with the features (considering the price), but it had a fault - whenever it was switched on, there was a low volume high pitched whistling sound from the speakers, particularly noticeable from the centre speaker. I sent it back, the suppliers replaced it with a new one & it has the same prob!
Does anybody got one of these? Does yours work OK or have you got the same problem?
If I can't find a solution, it will have to go back as the nosie is annoying....

I've seen this problem, but haven't had a chance to troubleshoot yet.

have you tried different cables to the speakers?

Also how are you connecting this to your TV?

Let me know your results as this could save me some time at home and I can just throw it out the window instead

I must admit I have not tried different cables. I used a scart cable to connect it to the TV.

As for what I did to define/resolve the problem: At first I thought it might be some kind of interference from the TV or whatever, so I moved it to another room, but it was the same. In fact I tried it in various locations, completely disconnected from the TV - I just carried the unit with the centre speaker attached, then plugged it in. Unfortunately the noise always remains.

In an act of desperation, thinking it might even be a dirty mains power supply, I drove to a friends house a short distance away, taking unit & centre speaker with me - on plugging it in & powering up I got exactly the same noise!

My guess is that the noise is probably interference from the DVD drive motor or maybe bad shielding somewhere in the box. Annoying, because otherwise I am very happy with the unit. It is almost (but not quite!) worth putting up with, considering price vs features.

I have just arranged with the suppliers for a refund and so I will be sending it back unless anybody comes up with a solution in the next couple of days.

I won't get a chance to look at this until the weekend.

Is the whistling only there when a speaker is connected?

Does the whistinling come from the machine or speaker?

I only had a quick look this the other day, and did'nt spend too much time on it.

The whistling only seems to come from the speakers and is most noticeable from the centre speaker. I don't notice it from the TV speakers, but then when you use the unit you tend to turn the TV volume off/down anyway...

I'll try some different speaker cable at the weekend, and also try the speaker connected to my Denon amp.

I'll post my results on Monday if you can wait that long

Sorry for the delay - It's been one of those weeks, and I'm afraid the news is not good.

If you can change this player under guarantee then do.

I tried everything that was supplied with the player and the noise remains.

I tried different speakers on it and the problem remained.

I tried different speaker cable and still no change.

I think you were right in that it's interferance somwhere in the machine that is causing the noise, but I could not take my friends machine apart to have a look.

Thanks for the info - I'll be sending mine back in the next couple of days - shame, because all the features are right.
