Based on my experience with th FZ20 & the S7000, I would choose the Fuji.

Maybe print the specs from both & compile your own pros/cons list. My perception is that the FZ3 scores with a slightly longer zoom, image stabilisation & SD cards. The S5500 is 4Mp, uses standard AAs, has a full 640x480 video mode & (IMO) better ergonomics.

I'm sure a side by side comparison in your local Jessops will sort you out in no time. They also have a 28 day exchange policy. Just make sure that you get them to price match against something sensible!

It was only the image stabilisation that had me swithering as i have quite shaky hands when it comes to taking pics :suicide:

Hrmm, I'd go the FZ3. REMEMBER: "More mega pixels does not ALWAYS mean BETTER picture". The panasonic leica lense is SO much better than the Fuji's it's uncanny. Going by test images i've seen from both camera's, i'd grab the panasonic any day! Also the 12x zoom and image stabiliser, you can't go wrong really. I take one handed shots of cars 30 feet away, still with perfect results every time.
I'd suggest have a play with both cameras, go to a respected camera store and get them to print out some test photo's that YOU took. When you see the results you'll knwow hat i mean. - The FZ3 even rated a better picture than minolta's Z3!

Just remember what I said - don't open the software, don't open & attach straps & download a manual from Fuji's site. That way, if it doesn't suit, you can return it as mint for exchange or even refund.

This case is a good buy from Amazon & fits the S7000/FZ20 nicely so would probably suit the S5500 too. Add some Ni-MH AAs & a charger & you'll get free delivery.
