RSounds have a better choice and all within £200 for each other.

So which one would you choose and why?

    Hitachi PMA400
    Toshiba 42WP27B
    Panasonic TH42PW5

Well i'm off to RS Brighton tomorrow to demo an Arcam DV88+ and Yamaha RX-V640RDS, which will go with my new Hitachi 42PD3000 which I get tomorrow morning from John Lewis in Southampton for £3000.00.

Yes you can get the Hitachi PMA400 from RS at around £2,500 (i think i saw) but i prefer the PD3000 which is more of a TV / screen for DVD etc and has received excellent reviews.

JL price match to £3000.00 with a 5 year warranty, which beats RS 3 year warranty (at £199) hands down!

To get the JL price match, simply find your nearest store...

    http://www.johnlewis.com/info/corporate/DSLocator.asp?str=960&tabId=01

...give them a call and say JL Cheadle price match to £3000.00 (Dave Buckley at Cheadle was my contact for this) and place an order :) I did last Friday, and my screen is sitting in there collection bay waiting for me to arrive at 9.30am tomorrow :)

    Regards,

    Nik

But why pay the extra £500 as I have heard the 400 is as good as the 3000 and the extra is for the box. I can get a digi box for £100 or less. The 400 comes with the card for svid, component, composite and VGA

Petrolhead, the Hitachi pma has so many component inputs you need to pop into JL for a Netgem STB, which does component out. It's up to 3 component sources with the PMA, make the most of it. Cost you a few quid more, but it's a no-brainer for the PMA

I think MAW means the following

    JL - John Lewis
Netgem STB - a Set Top Box (or digi box) made by Netgem
PMA - I think that's the full name for the 400 version of the Hitachi screen you're looking at...

Fun all these names isn't it! Here's another to consider: NEC VP4S - I'm a big fan of this screen having had it a couple of months now, and just noticed that the price has droped to <£2500 at http://www.ivojo.co.uk/plasma.htm which must make it something of a bargain. Loads of connections, good warranty and excellent picture - better than the Toshiba (and therefore the panasoinc as they're the same screen) you mention - I had one before, so able to make the comparison - if that helps at all.

Come on, I can't be the only NEC owner here forever!

dont discount the panny it is still one hell of a screen and Panny know what they are doing with Plasma!

Also check stock and point of origin of the screen for warranty purposes!!!

Ross, I'm with you on the NEC, and you can get it with a 3 ry warranty, though it's always going to cost you more than a PMA400. Maybe the panny 6 has the edge, but by the time you've added the video boards to bring it up to NEC connectivity, it costs just as much, and with a poxy warranty.
