which would be the ideal setup

i wonder if somebody could help me. i currently have a sammy le40a856 and a 360 elite which is connected via a qed reference hdmi cable. i am looking to buy a onky 806 amp.what would be a better connection method and why??

would having the optical really make that much of a difference????

HDMI as it saves you on the additional costs and hassles of fitting another optical cable. Simple as that. The sound will be the same.

so why would my xbox have a hdmi port aswell as an optical output port????

Because some people have equipment which does not support audio over HDMI (or even HDMI at all), so they use the optical output instead.
