Just bought the dvd/speaker combo Sony DAVS 500 from Costco(doing a good price at the mo!) and need to replace my rapidly expiring tv. I will be really grateful to receive your views on a suitable 28inch widescreen tv to go with this system. I have been trawling the net and seem to be settling on a Panasonic TXPL10 but open to suggestions. I must admit I have been put off Sony after reading the board today! Don't really want to go over £1000 if possible. The Loewe units look great but I think are out of my budget.

Also I also have On Digital through a set top box, is it worth getting a digital compatible tv, even if only to cut down on remote controls!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Can't help with your questions, but I have one for you.

How much was the DAVS500 and is it multiregion?

My Costco membership's expired so they won't tell me over the phone.....

    Cheers

I've got my DAV-S800 plugged into a Sony KV32LS35 which is sweet. The nice thing is that the AV panel for the S-Video output is on the side not at the front like most TV's therefore no funny cables out of the front!

Unbeatable.co.uk has this TV at great prices.

Price at Costco is £399.99 plus VAT for DAV S500. They also had DAV S300, but can't remember price. Cheers Damo.

PS Advice still required re: which TV!

I've had a Panasonic TX28 PL10 for a month now no complaints and no problems though I must say that the TV tuner is somewhat weaker than the old Phillips 21 inch it replaced I no longer get Channel 5 or as the John Lewis engineer who seemed to know less than me said "these new sets are so much more demanding" of signal reception. Having said that the strong winds of a few weeks ago may also have paid a part, possibly knocking the aerial out of allignment.

I've got a Sony KV28FX65 connected to mine. It has three scarts at the back which I've used for Sky, DAVS500 and a VCR. Very pleased with the set up but I did ditch the stand and bought a Triskom unit, looks great !

Most tellys will accept S-video through a Scart socket anyway. Just get an S-video to Scart cable and you can plug your cables into the back of the telly. Even neater :)

Just make sure the tv you get is fully NTSC compliant as you won't have the RGB scart to fall back on if it isn't (not present on the DAV).

But unfortunately the Sony in question comes with just 2 SCART (1 RGB, the other is S-Video). One has the VCR in it (soon to be Sony) and the other has my Digibox (RGB). As long as the new VCR (when it comes) can pass through RGB then I may swap the S/Video to SCART.

    Not a problem.

Digibox > TV (into RGB scart)
    VCR > digibox
    DAV > TV (s-video scart)
TV > DAV (2x phono output)

    Will this make a difference...

I have no terrestrial TV signal so I just use the Sky for everything.
