I shall need a new tv soon to replace my 33" crt toshiba which I am going to give away to my brother. The problem is I cannot decide whether to buy a a top of the range(£2000 approx) or a budget one (£700 approx)now & upgrade it in a couple of years time.
There are several things to sort out:
    Plasma or LCD
    40" or 42" or 46" or 50"
    Sony or Samsung
    Where to buy from.

I want to use it mainly for DVDs (SD at the moment) & normal tv, no games.

Very difficult to decide, thats why I have narrowed it a little bit by trying to stick to 2 makes only.

    Appreciate any help.

If it were me i'd go somewhere inbetween, theres no point spending 700 quid if its not gonna be that good. i'd recommend the Samsung LE40F86BDx, it's 1080p with clear panel technology and looks brilliant, get yourself to the nearest currys and have a look. It looks better than tv's that cost twice as much. I've found it for £1.098.89 + £30 delivery with a three year warranty. Please see link. I'm pretty sure i've seen it instore at Currys digital for £999.99 though so probs best to have a look around.

might look good on hd but far more noise on this than a plasma when watching SD. if you did want a 1080 screen theres the pz70 by panasonic but to be honest there is no point if your just watching SD the extra pixels just cause more problems. but do go get demos just make sure its on SD content.
