Basically, i've been looking for a decent system for up to £300.
    Requirments:

    - Plays: DVD / DVD-R / VCD / CD / CD-R / CD-RW / DVD-RW / SVCD / MP3
    - Decent sound (5.1)
    - Tuner?
    - Region Free

The one i've been looking at is the Pioneer DCS-313. I've not been able to find a review for this exact model but have read the review of the discontinued DSC-303. The review said it was excellent and good value for money.

I'm open to all views and suggestions.

    spr33,

You will find many positive owners here regarding 313. Excellent performance-to-pound ratio. It has everything you mentioned, good sound, picture + able to read jpegs and wma, DD, DTS, Dolby PL-II, RGB scart, S-video, 10-bit/54MHz video D/A converter and 96kHz/24-bit-compatible audio D/A converter, quite a few bass level/tone/mode controls and a OnScreenDisplay.

The best deals at the moment are
www.leconcepts.com/dvd_home.htm £280 with 3 dvds (choice between Monster's Inc CE, Chocolat SE, Godzilla SE, Ab Fab and Elvis Presley) and a free Gold plated OFC S-video to Scart contact

    www.techtronics.com/uk/shop/50-pioneer-dcs-313-multi-region-dvd-player.html? £260
    www.multizonedvd.com £267
    www.discountaudiovision.co.uk £265

You can find 2 reviews at

    They gave 5/5 and 10/10

    Happy hunting and reading.

I did end up buying it and I must say i'm pleased with it. Have you tested +R / +RW DVD media on it. At dvdrhelp it says it's supported, but in the manual it doesn't list it as supported.

bimmer: Do you have stands for the rear speakers? If so, which one's do you have. Are the 'connectors' 'universal' or are they specific for brand / model?

No, I don't have stands, because i don't need them, i have great spots for them in my room so they are perfectly placed.
