    Hi,

I have max £300 to spend for a Sub- mainly watching movies , and I have been flicking thru 'What HiFi Sound and Vission'.

For the price range and top reviews I have a choice of the following:

    MJ Acoustics Pro50 MK2

    Mordaunt MS309i

    Velodyne CHT8R

    Wharfdale SW150 or SW250

    So anyone tested these?

    Regards

What about the BK XLS200? Under £300 and a popular choice on here.

    I'd agree with Andori.

It's a toss up between the BK electronics XLS200 @ £289 or MS 309i @ around £220. The BK and MS are very closely matched in terms of performance with the BK being more compact and having nicer build qualitiy.

    Cheers

    Nigel

BK are the manufacturer, and make (or made) subs for a lot of the major manufacturers.... i understand REL and MJ Acoustics to name a couple of good names.

I agree with Nigel though, for the money it's the toss up between those 2, both superior to the units you mentioned

BK electronics sell direct to the public and as such are able to offer you much better price v performance. The XLS200 is very similar to MJ acoustics REF200 which retails at £650, which would you buy:D.

    Take a look here: http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers/XLS200-DFandFF.htm

Just click on the version your interested in down firing or forward firing.
The bulid qualitiy is second to none, cabinets have a choice of real wood veneer at no extra cost and you get a 2 year warranty.

    Regards

Another thumbs up for the BK XLS200 it's a lovely little box.

There is actually a review of it in the February issue of Home Cinema Choice (p.98)

They sum it up by saying:

"This BK is bogglingly potent for it's size and absurdly good value for money. Just think you could have three or four of these for the cost of the bigger ones in this group"

But then we already knew that on this forum :D

BTW, It was the only piece of AV equipment I've ever bought blind and was solely on forum recommendations and it didn't disappoint.

BK may have manufactured subs on behalf of REL at one time but certainly not in the last 10 years

Will the BK give a thumping/ground shaking base?

Will it cut off at low signal levels /auto shut off during quiet movie tracks?

Can and how can I connect them to Active speakers that have a sub output known as volume adjustable output via strereo mini jack output? .i.e Like yamaha YST M100?

    Regards

I second this. I bought this sub going off what people on this forum recommended and it arrived a couple of days ago. I must say, I'm loving it

I got the downward facing one and it looks really nice, and sounds even better!

XLS200 is the way forward

:confused:Hi, please kindly see thread no.13

Also, if the both 309i and xls200 are similar in quality why not go for 309i as its cheaper?
