    all i need is:
video up conversion (i.e. composite to s-vid, s-vid to component etc)
    7.1 amplification
    full preouts
    on screen (on tv) display

Is Yamaha '657 the only real answer?
I liked the sound of my old HK with Logic 7 but thats gone now and the AVR635 is pricey at a grand....
What about the Pioneers- the model before the AX2, what was that called and did that have video up?
    Thanks guys :)

    Rory

No, but it's a very good one. Had mine for nearly a week now and absolutely thrilled to bits!

that sounds cool guys, thanks....2 problems
1 is that it only has 4 visual inputs- i need 5:
    xbox
    divx
    dvd
    dvdr
    vcr

2 is that its being replaced very shortly; or so avland told me!

i have a dvd with divx- its called a Pioneer DV585 and it does a pretty poor job of playing dvds.
I have a dvd player- a Pioneer DV747a that does a nice job of playing dvds :)
I have a dvd recorder- a JVC DRM10 that doesn't play divx, let alone VHS ;) and is a pretty poor dvd player too!

i did have a look around for divx playing dvd recorders but couldn't find any (i'm not buying a samsung!)

The DSP-AX757SE does have more than 4 switched video inputs. There is an Aux video input at the front of the amp. However, you can also connect more than 4 video inputs at the back, the only thing you have to do is be a little bit creative with the I/O assignments.

The DSP-AX757SE may be due for replacement, probably around June time, but that doesn't make it a bad buy. I would say it's the opposite - the DSP-AX757SE is being heavily discounted the replacement will sell close to RRP when released. There was very little difference between the DSP-AX750 and the DSP-AX757, I expect the same with the DSP-AX759 and the DSP-AX757.

Finally if you look at AVLAND they have the RX-V559 on pre-order for £350 the same price as the DSP-AX757. You can get a RX-V557 for under £240.
