I know next to nothing about subs, but having just upgraded the screen to a plasma, I know I need to upgrade the audio a bit. Currently I've got a Sony STR-DB930 driving a set of Pascal speakers with the bundlled Sony sub. THe speakers and amp can't really change at the moment, but the sub is pretty weak, so I think needs to be the first to go. I need to get the sub from RS as it's part of an overall deal on the screen, and ideally it needs to be finished in wood (not black). My choices appear to be...

    Eltax 12R or
    JPW-211

Anyone got any experience of these, or any of the other subs on the RS page here ?

The room is about 16' x 12', with hard floors.

    TIA...

Or for £325 a Velodyne CHT-10 from Uncle Eric is pretty good VFM.

PS1000 is a very underrated sub though:smashin: Better than the two you've mentioned, both of which are more woofer than sub.:thumbsdow

The original poster said it MUST come from Richer Sounds ... but yes a Paradigm PDR10 would be okay too.

Well, it MUST come from RS, unless I decide to take a refund instead. They've cocked around with my plasma order so much (which included the Eltax 12R, but was delivered broken, and now they're struggling to find another one), I'm sure I could just get the cash back. The wood finish is necessary, I've had enough of a battle getting the plasma in the lounge, a big black box would definately not get approval ;)

The common opinion seems to be various Paradigm subs are good - some US websites seem to show them with a wood finish, but the Paradigm website just shows black. Is there a good on-line source for these in the UK?

I think its still the case that Richer sounds are still the sole UK supplier of paradigm products, but for some policy reason that seems rather elusive they don't list these on their website. You could try getting hold of a catalogue from their store and seeing if they are in there.
Personally I got a PS1000 from them in june last year when they were £150 quid through a What Hi Fi advert. Bargain. It changed my life. :D
Can't wait to afford something a bit bigger though. Servo 15? That'd cheer my housemates up.

    Oh for goodness sake.
Since when is it wrong for someone who's happy with their purchase to recommend a sub or whatever it is that they have bought????
This is getting personal now and is not funny anymore.
    Kindly cease constant your jibes.

Why Uncle Eric and Velodyne should bother other members here has me gobsmacked, unless they are in the sub woofer business themeslves. It only takes one member to recommend a Velodyne then two minutes later Uncle Eric gets slagged off, those that repeatedly do this have a sad existence.

If members want to reply to a thread where a sub needs recommending all well and good, then they can either post their experiences with the subs they have got/had or heard, so what if there is 10 recommendations for Velodyne, as long as you have recommended what you feel is good quality and value that's all that counts, you have contributed to the forums and that is why it is here, to help others, not to get worked up because Uncle Eric and his sub has been mentioned.

The simple reason members here are pointed in Uncle Erics direction is that the equipment he sells in this case Velodyne are quality subs, at a discounted price and the service is second to none. :)
