    Hi Guys,

I am about to upgrade my system (currently have a Panny TH-37PX60 Plasma and thats about it!), so I can feel the full force of HD!

Have been looking at buying either the Denon AVR-2808 or Yamaha RX-V1800 (chose these are they both have Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio - hopefully these are good choices!?), or possibly one of the higher models in the ranges, and am now on the hunt for some decent speakers to go with the amp.

I'm pretty good with the technical stuff but there are so many makes out there I dont know where to start!! I want some good volume and excellent sound quality.

Any help with makes and models to go for would be appreciated.

I will be looking to get a 7.1 setup so they cant be tooo expensive but I dont want to have to compromise too much on sound quality by saving money!

    Many thanks for your responses

Difficult to give any suggestions without a budget, but what about these or these.

Both the systems I suggested can be expanded to 7.1 within your budget.
The Quads are particularly good value at the minute as they're being discounted to make way for a new model - they normally cost £1k.
I've not heard the SVS but they seem to be very well regarded on this forum and elsewhere - particularly the subwoofer.
The Quad sub while probably not a match for the SVS is still excellent.
I'd venture to suggest that the Quads are probably a better bet if music is a priority whereas the SVS would probably edge it for home theatre.
I'm sure you'd not be disappointed in either.
I'd also consider Monitor Audio, B&W and KEF at this sort of budget and I'd definitely try to get a demo before you buy.
I think there's a lot more difference in the sound from different speakers than from different electronics, and you really do need to hear for yourself and decide which sounds best to you.
You'll also need to take in to account the size and appearance as seven speakers and a sub can be pretty noticeable!

Cool, cheers mate for your advice. Will have to go and have a listen like you suggested. Yes I did think about the 7 speakers taking up lots of room, but I do have a large room and was thinking of wall mounting them at the rear and sides. Might still go for 5 yet though.

Are Tannoy still a good make? I used to have a pair years ago and they were very good. Have found these ones but they are pretty bulky, not sure my room is THAT big!! - http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/2558

Tannoy still do make some superb speakers.
Looks like a lot of speaker for £1k!

As a variation on the SVS set, maybe look at the 5.0 speaker set with the PC+ Sub, although it will be slightly over the £1k budget.
