Hi folks, I am a relative newcomer to this home cinema stuff so please excuse any daftness or silly questions.

I have just purchased (although waiting for delivery) a Denon 2805.

It is to replace a 2 year old Sony STR-DE875 which has blown a centre channel. I intend to initially use the speakers from the Sony (including sub) with my new amp except for the front Left & Right where I intend to use a pair of Bose Model 100's.

Firstly, will I notice a significant improvement of sound with my current setup by just replacing the amp?

Bearing in mind that I am not fully in control of my finances, (girlfriend :) ), and that I might find it difficult swinging much more than £1000, would I be better:

    (a) Getting a decent front set of speakers including centre and utilising current speakers for surrounds and bose's for rears and replacing those in time

    or

    (b) Just going for the best setup I can for the money.

    or

    (c) None of the above.

Any ideas on brands, models and suppliers of speakers would be greatfully received, I live in Jersey, Channel Islands which does somewhat restrict high street shopping.

    Many thanks for any advice!!

    Alex

OK we also need to know what type of speakers are acceptable (WAF) ie floor standers, stand mounters or pods etc, colour if applicable and do you need a sub with that money?

Not too fussed about the look of the speakers but I suppose a nice wood effect finish would be preferable. Floor standers would also be preferable but not essential. As I said in my original post, I do have a somewhat crappy legacy of speakers including the Sony sub woofer. Really just wondering what the 1st step should be in terms of replacing. ie fronts, rears or full system.

    Cheers
