Hi all,

I intend to purchase a 65” OLED for our open-plan kitchen/living room. For this room we don’t wish to have any rear speakers & want everything wall mounted, so only looking at soundbars.

Budget for the soundbar is approx £1000. Would ideally like something with surround-effect but it’s not a deal breaker.

With that in mind, was considering the Sony HT-ST5000 as it’s close to our budget and seems to broadly get good reviews from the likes of WhatHifi.

However, the user reviews on this forum seem to be more mixed, especially when it comes to reliability.

Was therefore wondering what people’s thoughts are on recommended soundbars at this price point?

For good order:

Only input will be from a 4K video matrix (all video sources to sit in a Control4 rack which will distribute the signal). Don’t mind separate sub woofer, but don’t want / need rear soeakers for this room.

Many thanks in advance!

Onkyo do a soundbar that might fit the bill, or perhaps the Yamaha YSP2700, depending on the audio that you expect, and I'm not sure about 4K support.

Depending upon the shape of the room a surround effect soundbar may not work as it needs walls to bounce sound off.

Surround Sound in an ‘Open Plan’ area is difficult with a conventional speaker system and pretty much a non-starter with a Soundbar.

What audio are you distributing via the Matrix?

A Stereo system is usually a better option.

Are you doing distributed audio via the Crestron system?
