Now that my first generation Pace DigiBox has died a death, I'm about to buy a new box.

I'm torn between the Panasonic DSB31, and the Sony VTX S760, both from Brymar Satellites, as their prices seems pretty reasonable.

Question is .. Is either of these boxes any better than the other one, or are they pretty much of a muchness thesedays?

    Many thanks :D

I can't say which is best since I don't own either but SKY are selling new digiboxes for £169 for a limited time.

Think you'll find that the quote from the Usual Suspects is in fact lifted from CS Lewis' interesting book entitled "The Screwtape Letters". Thought you'd like to know - it's an interesting read. Oh, I've just bought the Sony VTX-S760U as some little tea-leaf has just lifted my Panasonic digibox (with which I was very happy), but the Sony one has a digital out to go into my AV processor.

Well there you go, you learn something new everyday :)

Well, I hope the scumbag who stole it dies a slow miserable death

On a more positive note, I don't have any external AV to worry about, so that aside - which one would you say you recommend ? .. I've read that the Panasonic is one of the fastest (EPG/Active wise) out there, whilst the Sony is the smallest/slimest ..

I'm leaning more towards the Panasonic as it'll match the TV & Video, as they're also Panny's - but just interested in what others thought.

When I first had Sky digital I ordered a Panasonic digibox. My installer didn't have one immediately available so I had the Sony on loan, giving me a chance to compare them when I did finally get the Panasonic.

My experience was that the Panasonic is significantly faster at bringing up its on-screen menus and submenus. The Sony was slow enough to become really annoying after a very short time; I always had the feeling that I was waiting for the damn thing to perform.

The Sony does perhaps look better, and has an optical output, but I've never regretted going for the Panasonic.

I have a Panasonic box and a Sony box, the 760 Sony is about the same speed as the Panasonic, but the older 750 Sony was really a lot slower.

I hadn't realised that there's a new model of the Sony. It must surely have been the old one which so annoyed me...

I saw the offer on channel 999.
There is nothing to indicate that you have to subscribe to the mirror subscription or pay for installation to get the £169 price.
The previous £215 digibox could be bought with "no strings attached".
