    Hi There,

Bought a Scart cable for my DVD player IXOS XHT 611, plugged in to the Sony VCR and the picture quality improved massively on the VCR; removed color bleading and honeycome effect. I since took the £25 Monster scart cable I bought for the VCR back to Comet for a full refund (cheers to comet no questions asked when I explain the IXOS was miles better).

I am now in the process on an upgrade, my thoughts are :

    - use the IXOS XHT 611 in the VCR player
    - buy a QED AV21 for the DVD player

Does any one agree the QED is a better scart cable and such should be used in the DVD player, or is the QED no better than the IXOS (won what hiFI best scart cable), looking mainly for any improvement however slight in sharper color picture with low noise.

I have a rather excellent Harman/Kardon DV21, whips my old Pioneer DV737 on picture quality, lower digital picture noise (very noticeable on older DVD movies) and detail, how things are moved on!

    Cheers,

    Mike Paul

What the hell is "Thor" is that an actual brand???
Right I sell Scart leads for a living. In order of value for money:
    1. Ixos XHT801 £70
    2. QED AV2110 £50
    3. VanDenHul THESCART £135
    4. Ixos XHT601 £40
    5. Audioquest X-Scart £75
Only my opinion but I've tried them all and If I had the money I'd go for the VanDenHul!!

The QED 4110 RGB only Squart is very good, no interference from other signals running down the cable as it only transfers RGB and nothing else.

Thor is a brand made by a company called Philex who also own the budget Home Cinema brand.

You can buy the Thor scart leads from either Richer Sounds or Maplins.

They are superb. I've also got the QED Sqart that has been mentioned and in my opinion there is not much in it between the two. I had the Thor scart first ( was running a dvd2800mk2 through a 32" Philips Pixel Plus ) and the change from a fairly decent scart was amazing ). Then swapped to QED Squart and initial thoughts were the PQ is not as clear !

But then got used to it....

Now have a Plasma so using those scarts for Sky box and VCR.

I`m on Thor scart leads as well and the difference between them and the naf cheap ones you see knocking about is incredible!

As soon as the leads arrived you could feel by the weight of them and visually you can see the quality and they also look smart as well! Its money well spent! :)

Try http://www.cable-shop.co.uk they sell cables by Ixos, QED and many more, always found them to be very good.

In my opinion there is not much in it between the XHT611 and the QED AV21xx, the XHT611 has recently picked up a What Hi-Fi Award so people are going crazy over it. Don't get me wrong it's a great cable, has been for a while... As someone has already said the QED AV41xx is RGB only and so in theory is "better", Ixos also do an RGB only cable, check the site out above for the model number, and also take a look at the Supra AV6 which is another excellent Scart cable.

I'd been considering the QED Sqarts for my setup and the best price I had found for the AV2105 was £33 (inc P&P) from Empire Direct.

However, the cable-shop link above has a flat QED Sqart P2105 for only £28.49. I've never seen this flat one before and it's not on QED's website. Does anyone know if it's any good?

    For £30 each,
Thor scart leads are excellent value. Even my daughter noticed the picture was much better.

Has anyone tried using better mains leads.
    Did it improve the picture.

Many Thanks to Bobby punk, you were spot on about the IXOS801 !

Went to Sevenoaks at the weekend and tried the IXOS 801 and it really impressed, better than the QED 21xx and the Thor.

The Thor scart was no where near as good as the IXOS601 from what I could see (colours not as vibriant, some slight background picture noise not evident on the IXOS601).

The IXOS 801 is silver plated and seems to add new found depth to images and shaper object edges, American Beauty is amazingly lifelike. Older moves benefit from a clearer picture, this cables is only justifiable I think on very good DVD players.

For a VCR or a cheaper DVD both the Thor and IXOS-601 scart cables are highly recommended, the choice is yours.

    Cheers,

    Mike P

    Hi,

sorry to dig out this old thread, but I'm in process of choosing a scart for my new Pioneer 565 and the choices are

    1. QED P21 (I guess this must be same as AV21 but flat?)
    2. Thor
    3. Ixos 611

is there much to choose between them (the posts above seem to suggest not?) and if no what is currently the best place to get them?

    Thanks

Cheers for the pointer Johndl, some good prices there. How did you buy form them - eBay, or just phoned up? Do they take credit cards or cheques only?

As for the general silence from the board, I take there is not much to chose between those cables.

One other question then, is there any differences between flat and rounded cables, besides aisthetics of couse? For instance do the rounded cables provide better shielding of the signal against interference? This is a major issue for me as I have a complete noodle soup behind my TV, and even with the new Pioneer 565 I observe a lot of jitter on the screen, which I assume must be the result of the signal intererence (or is it?)

    any advise is much appreciated.

I'm using tech+link cables, which were relatively cheap but definitely better built than the out-of-the-box plastic ones. They do also perform a tad bit better, which can be seen when zooming in on the picture on my set (Philips 32PW9616). The picture is a little sharper, with less ringing and noise.

But not knowing who actually manufactures them for tech+link and where, I don't know if the cable is as good quality as the overall build gives the impression of. I'm not disappointed though.
