It looks like this fundamental feature is missing from most.
So far I can see the PACE twin doing this and thats about it.
I want to playback a prerecording, whilst recording a new one.
I know the HUMAX and DIGIFUSION do not do this.
Anybody know of others. (Twin tuner is not important to me)
    Many thanks.

Looks like a twin tuner Azzo is your only recourse here, Ive just bought the Humax 8000T and have resigned myself to watching the anlg signal from Chs 1-5 if Im recording something on the digital side. Not great but one way round this problem, ie you can have BBC 1-2, ITV 1, Ch4 & Ch5, surely there must be something you could watch on those 5 channels.

I forgot to say, you cant do this at present with VCRs, and boxes like the Humax are going for £150 with 80Gb on them, its a small price to pay for the cheapness of the device and what it does otherwise, IMHO.

I'm afraid you are 100% wrong about the Digifusion. Not only does it allow you to playback a previous recording whilst recording another DTT tv channel it allows you to record TWO different DTT channels at the same time as playing back a previous recording. Regards, yt.

An alternantive, i guess is to get a 7day epg freeview box and connect it to a HD recorder using tvlink. I know the panasonic hd recorder allow you to playback anything and record at the same time. Seems to be a lot of hastle though.
Is the PACE still buggy. (My telewest PACE falls over about once a week and my old PACE ondig box fell over about twice a week)
Why can't manufacturers get these things right.
Bascially I want sky+ fetures without the price premium as I am not interested in the extra channels.

red16v, I'm sure I read in a review that this was missing.
I presume it also does chaseplay(timeslip) then. And what about pause live TV?
How reliable is the digifusion. JL are doing these for 180 at the moment.
    Sorry for so many questions.

The Pace Twin can record and play back at the same time, it can also play back a recording as it is being done.

So far only DTTV PVR to do this!

The TIVO is a nice idea, but lack of hardware support, paying for an EPG which is free with freeview and no freeview tuner, makes me think twice.

To summarise some aspects of the Digifusion:
It can record up to 2 different DTT channels and allow you to playback a previously recorded programme all at the same time. You can pause 'live' tv by 30 minutes. It works off the standard 8 day Freeview EPG although of course you can manually set up programmes to record if you want/need to. It does not allow chase recording, ie it will not let you 'catch up' on a recording that it has already started recording. Personally I have had no reliability problems and no operational problems - but this may depend on your personal circumstances, ie DTT signal strength etc. I am very happy with my purchase as are my two colleagues who have each purchased one. Regards, yt.

redv, sounds interesting. I find it strange that you can play back another recording whilst it is recording, but not allow chase play?
Is it possible to set up repeat records from the epg. The Humax has a 5 programme repeat limit.
Side by side this box is smaller and better looking than the rest. IMHO

azzo, just a quickie as I 'm about to leave work - Not possible to set up repeat records via epg (not sure any of the non-tv or sky plus boxes can do this? - yet!)

father Alice - do you have a link to this thread about the ota update ? haven't seen any mention on the DTG.org 'official' site of any Digifusion update OTA ?

    regards, yt.

Has this update gone live yet? I am interested in the digifusion, but without chase play it's a deal breaker. (More often than not I am able to watch a programme half way through.

Perhaps you could give their support line a ring on 08702 405005 ? - they may be able to answer your query accurately (timescale wise for the update). Regards, yt.

Here is the reply I got from digifusion (within an hour of emailing!!)
"Can you please tell me when the next update is available for the FVRT100. I have heard that this will support
chase-play (watch the start of a program whilst it is recording). Is this true?
Also, can you tell me the release date for the FVRT200 and the FVRTD100"

    Hi Peter,

    "Thanks for your enquiry.

The next update for the FVRT100 is currently undergoing final release testing and we hope to begin broadcasting within a week!

This release will support the chase play functionality you mention.

The FVRT200 will be release in January. The FVRTD100 has been delayed.

    with best regards"
    Well done digifusion.
