I have a Marantz SR-9300 receiver but am considering adding a two-channel power amp (or two mono blocks) for the two front channels, using the Marantz as a pre-amp. Would this be a worthwhile upgrade? If so, does anyone have any suggestions on which power amp would be make a good combination? I'm a little strapped for space, so would need something fairly compact. I've had a look at the Musical Fidelity X-P200, which is one possibility. The amp will power Elac 207.2 floorstanding speakers (4 ohm, 89Db, with a 'peak power handling' of 160W. The digital source is a modified Marantz SA8400 sacd player (a two-channel version of the SA8260), with cd fed through a Bel Canto DAC2. Any views would be appreciated. My main concern is that the Marantz is not rated for 4 ohms and I may get better performance from a separate power amp which is, assuming the preamp section in the Marantz is okay.
