    Hi Guys,
Looking for a plasma and have narrowed it down to 2 models:

    Panny TH42PA20 (COMET £2500)
    Hitachi 42PD5200 (Available everywhere)

I know the Panny PW6 is recommended, But I would like an Intergrated Tuner and speakers etc, Can anyone confirm the the PA20 is basically the same screen but with the added speakers & Tuner.

What are your thoughts on each one?

    Thanks for your time :)

did you know that you can attach a pair of stereo speakers to the PW6? either panasonics own speakers that attach to the sides or any other 6ohm speakers,

also why bother with an analogue tuner when you can buy a freeview tuner for £50 and get loads more channels?

    maybe something to think about.

I believe actual screen part is the same with the PA20 and PW6

    Thanks for the replies.

    Re: spook:
I Only wanted the intergrated tuner, cause the missus prefers it (?), we will be using sky+ anyway, So could go down the PW6 route, which would make sense due to the feedback of them on this forum. The main reason why I am turned off this unit is because of the video card add ons, If someone can recommend the cards I would need, I will be using Sky+ & Philips dvdr70 (soon to be a GX3).
Also how common are 6 ohm speakers, will it be easy to source these?

    Re:I want a plasma:
Probably will go down the Panny road, but will not need the tuner box,(thanks for the offer), I will just persued the missus that this is the best option.

    Re: hornydragon:
I have seen the Pe30 at comet.co.uk for £2699,(in Store £3699), god knows how they can justify the price difference!!

Do you think this is a good deal?

Will search for reviews on the JVC & see how it compares :)

    Cheers
    Dan

I have just looked at the Comet site, and it is for this price (special Online offer). but it doesn't seem to come with any form of stand...when you ask to add accessories, it doesn't show a pedestal stand.
Also, Comet says that it has no component input..is this right?

Just to let you know that Currys are knocking the screen out for £2649 online (without a stand) or £3169 with one!! (Is it made out of solid gold or something????)

If you think this is a good price I would buy it, I am not worried about the stand as it would be wall mounted.

Currys and comet conflict each other, one says its wall mountable, one says not! (they obviously know their stuff)!!

Now i have a decision to make: Either the PA20 or the PE30?

    Its driving mad!!!

Floor stand is £500 retail so not bad for a chain store.

    Dann
You can wall mount and unicol do a bracket, www.unicol.com IMHO it is an excellent Plasma TV, just turn it off dynamic mode as soon as you get it out of the box.

I purchased the Hitachi 42PD5200 in June and can only say good things about it.

The picture quality is very good (this is a clone of the Fujitsu P42HHA30 with RRP of £3995 without speakers or tuner)..
Standard arial: You will never use it. Plasmas should not be used for analog!
Sky Digital: If signal is good, picture quality is acceptable but can go bad.
Sky+: Haven't got it, but have heard it is an improvement.
DVD RGB: Reasonable quality, it is a wasted screen if used.
DVD Component: WOW, amazed can't describe my reaction. When I first put together a home cinema, I found myself buying DVDs for sound tracks with picture taking a back seat. Now, I've been watching most of my favorite DVDs and seeing things I had missed and now buy DVDs more for picture.
DVI: I haven't got a DVD player with this yet, but I will probably get one. For now, I have it hooked up to my PC via an ATI Radion 9600 Pro DVI port. The picture quality here is amazing and has never failed to impress with everything thrown at it. So impressive, I gave my 20" (excellent quality) PC monitor away for nothing!

The number of connections is great as long as you don't need more than 1 scart. As well as the DVI input, there is also the 16 pin D-Sub for PC connection and Mini Jack inputs for your PC audio.

With a native resolution of 1024x1024, this was a big factor in my choice and is the perfect size for PC's at a distance up to about 10 feet (depending on your eye sight).

The OSD options are excellent with the only complaint anyone could have is that there are lots of them and you could spend the first few days on these. But to me, that is a good thing.

And to top that all off, the remote is very good & easy to use, offering PiP, Freeze function and more. The screen offers a few ways to counter screen burn like moving the picture slightly every little while & slightly changing the brightness level (times are configurable & both are not noticeable).

This plasma has had quite a few reviews. One of them had it in second place behind a Panasonic TH-42PE30B with a statement of "Essentially a Fujitsu, but with a whole host of extras - stand, speakers, tuner. A bargain waiting to be bought."

I'm not saying it is better than any of your other options, but I would say that you should try to get a demo of both first.

    Colin

In My Honest Opinion, i should really put In My Proffesional Opinion.
Dynamic mode is what panny ship their plasmas in (a picture mode) burns phosphur at 3-4 times rate meaning 1/4 lifespan

Hitachi are not clones of Fujitsu, use the same technology, and 10244x1024 res is not comparable to 1280x768 or 852x480 as an alis panel only uses half of its vertical pixels at any one time! That said Alis can give a nice sharp and smooth picture. When partnered with correct eletronics.

To have a professional opinion you need to fulfil 2 criteria
    1) you need to be a member of an organisation with a Royal Charter. (like IEE)
    2) you need to be able to spell the word "professional"

    stick to HUMBLE m8
