Cant decide which one i want to get, some opinions badly needed.
Will mainly be using it for gaming on my xbox and PS2 and also conecting it up to my pc for some HDTV action. and want it future proofed for the next few years for Xbox 360 and PS3.

So i need a DVI conector, and component for PS2 + VGA for xbox. Which they both have

    Just cant decide :suicide:

    Panasonic PT-AE700 @ £984

    OR

    HITACHI PJ-TX100 @ £951

    Help me out please.

    Both great machines.

Dunno why Pete's adament the 700 "every time".

Only comparative review I've seen is on cine4home.de, it's in German but a decent translation web will get you the gist...PJ :)

Sorry, a little bombastic. Would say having seen both machines that the 700 shades it for me, but not a particularly qualified comment....

    Cheers.

you might want to consider some of the differences between these 2 machines, aside from the "in your face" aspects such as PQ :-

    * Htachi has 1.6x zoom, whereas Panasonic is 2.0x (might affect you if placement is an issue, suggest you check your room dimensions and intended pj placement against picture throws)

    * a replacement bulb for Hitachi is £154, whereas for the Panasonic is £265 (prices were obtained recently from http://www.hotlamps.co.uk, though I've just looked on there now for a refresh of these and they seem to have removed prices from their site for some reason!) I know which price I'd rather pay ...

you must remember that most people reading/posting here only own 1 projector, and PQ discussions are always subjective by their nature, so the opportunity to get a side-by-side comparison of 2 models is something you need to engineer by visiting a retailer who stocks - and demonstrates - both. This isn't impossible, but its not easy either.

It should also be noted that the room colour, the ability to block out outside light and the screen (with suitable maskings) will have a much bigger effect on PQ then the difference between those two projectors.

The OP did mention HDTV as a requirement & this projector only does 800x600.

    Hi,

The Hitachi is dropped in price on the continent. You can but this device now for € 1300. They send it with UPS or so. Unfortunately I bought it before the price drop but its a great machine!!

But it's likely to get hit by import tax (VAT etc) hence the price isn't so compelling, especially if you take into account any warranty implications / non UK spec etc...PJ

you will not get hit by import tax if buying from the rest of the EU, but 1300 euros is around £890, so it's not much of a discount over UK prices, really.
