    Hi ll,

I'm thinking of putting a new DVD drive in my HTPC.

Thinkin g Pioneer to make use of slowdown utility to reduce noise - does this provide a significant benefit?

Any feedback on efficacy of DVD-106S (slot in) vs. DVD-117 (tray loading)

    Thanks

    Peter

I've got a couple of the slot loaders flashed for multi-region and they are fine. However, I can't say they are particularly quiet.

I have to 106s and I would highly reccomend it. It was very easy to make region free as well :) Never had a problem with it.

Another vote for the 106S. Nice and reliable and almost inaudible in Pioneer's "Quiet Mode". :)

I've got a slot loader, havn't got around to region free'ing it or speed limiting it. Just the slot load rather than tray is funky enough though :)

    Thanks all

    anyone know of a metal-effect bezel/faceplate for the 106? I

'd like to integrate my drive more with my Coolermaster case and know I can get a lian-Li metal faceplate for the Pioneer tray loaders.

Anyone using something similar for the slot loaders?

    Peter

    Hi Meep,

I've got the 117, and the quiet mode utility is really worthwhile.

    best regards,

    Paul.
