I was originally going to go for a purely sub/sat 5.1 combo i.e. Kef Eggs but I am now thinking of going down the path of 2 front floorstanders, seperate sub and maybe the 2 satellites at the back (due to limited space). Does this sound ok? And would I have to spend over a grand putting a mid-range system together? Thanks, Jag.
Whilst people will tell you that the best sound comes from having five speakers from the same range I believe that a compromise is possible in order to get the best value. I have built up my own system with a mixture of speakers and a second hand sub to maximum value. Mission M77DS or M7DS make good bipole rears for between £100 and £150. A second hand REL Strata or Storm will be between £200 and £350. This leaves you £600 to £700 for the front three. That's one way and no doubt others will suggest alternatives.
Thanks Ian. How about the same speakers for the front and back then? Is there a nice package that comes without a sub? Although I do like the Eggs I just feel I can get more for my money.
