I have a 3802 and a Sony 900V dvd player and have always preferred the stereo dacs in the amp, much more lively with a better soundstage.

Because of this ive also always used the DD decoders in the amp and not the player but when switching over to the ext ins on my amp the other day I actually hears an improvement in the player decoders, what does everyone else use (assuming you have both anolog/dig connections)?

I prefer the sound of my amp's decoder over my two DVD players for PCM (CD-Audio), except when listening to the one and only 24/96 Audio-DVD (not DVD-A!) I have.
The amp can't decode that so I need to use the player's decoder - sounds great though.

Must say I agree with Reiner when playing CD's via the DVD player. I've never used my internal decoder on the premise the amp's dac should be better.
