    Wich one should I buy?

    - Pioneer 470 = only 88 pounds
    - Philips 5500 = 116 pounds. There are no reviews of this player, which is strange.
    - Pioneer 585 or 575 (the 575 seems to be better) the 575 = 133 pounds and the 585 = 116 pounds
    - maybe the denon 1720 = 131 pounds

The player will be used for a crt tv and connected via scart.

I will buy one of these this week because it is a gift. What's your advice? I am leaning towards the pio 470.

    Thanks!

I got a Denon 1710 off E-bay (delivered today), brand new for £60. RRP around £130. Quite amazing really the increase in quality you see from a component output. You definitely see more detail across the board and Shrek now looks almost a 3D animation. I know this model was not on your watch list but I hope it offers you some kind of endorsement of Denons' budget models.

    Good Luck.
