I need to buy three Scarts and having a quick look around...both here and on the net... Ebay etc... I'm thinking of going for one of these...

    Which would you go for?....

    1. Hitachi 1.5m OFC - http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/s...001&langId=-1&catalogId=2501&productId=103418

    2. Thomson Triple Shielded 1.5m OFC (Ebay) - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15067&item=5741042247&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

    3. Acoustic Research 1.8m OFC (Ebay) - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15067&item=5740150730&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

I'm trying to stick to a budget of around a max of £15 per cable... so if you have any other suggestions please let me know.

    Cheers! :)

i bought one of the hitachi cables a couple of days ago in the sale, great build quality and gives a very good picture and sound quality. a word of warning though they are a little on the bulky side due to the aluminium casing but well worth the price.

I've got both (the Vanilla that I linked to there and the Thor). There's nothing between them in build quality although the Thor has bigger plugs which can be a pain.

I certainly havn't noticed a difference between the 2, I think according to the specs, the Thor has every internal cable individually shielded whilst the plain version only shields the signal carrying conductors and not the control ones such as video switching and the +5V line. I wouldn't buy another Thor with the normal versions being indistinguishable to me and less than half the price :)

Sounds like I might be checking out Robert Dyas Moorgate after work :)

Whats all the "5 point" stuff about theough... is it OFC or doesn't that really matter much

I got mine from the Robert Dyas in Leadenhall Market so there's certainly some reasonably local to you. They may be cheaper elsewhere, I just stumbled across them there and they were far too much of a bargain to resist since I needed a scart anyway.

The plain version uses "3 point technology" whilst the Thor uses "10 point technology". You can check it on their site if you're really interested in the details, as far as I'm concerned though (and that's with a reasonable background in electromagnetic theory) they're both decent cables. :)

Apparently 10 at Moorgate so I'll grab the three that I'd need (they do all support RGB don't they?... Composite and SVHS is not a problem)...but just open the one to try..in case I have to take them back.

They're fully wired (ie. all 21 pins are connected at each end) so they'll do everything you throw at them. Make sure you report back here with your own opinions :)

Well I got the Philex cables from Robert Dyas....

Very well made...solid....the plugs are very heavy as they are metallic.

According to the packaging they have

    1. Quality Conductors (OFC)
    2. PVC Outer Jacket (covers the length of each interconnect)
    3. Gold Plated Connectors
    4. Multiple Shielding
    5. Dielectric Core Construction (apparently good for high freq. audio)

And my opinion is that they seem very good... picture is...well I'm not sure it is significantly better... maybe more rich and vivid...still some slight ghosting in high contrasting area's.

Overall very happy...seem to be very good value for money.

Incidentally RD also had the Acoustic Research leads that I linked to above (the Ebay auction).... but they were just £4.50 or so (can't exactly remember the price biut it was in the £4's)They looked very substantial indeed but I couldn't properly read the case (there was a big sticker on the back) and I thought it would be better to stick with some that someone else has tried... I reckon those AR's are a bargain though....certainly looked like more shielding on them than these Philex cables.
