Can anyone recommend a suitable "Mascot PSU for use with the Headsave Classic headphone amplifier?

Have checked on the 'RS' website but they list a number of Mascot PSUs rated at various amperages.

    Cheers - Harryo

    I ordered this one

    400-7011 1 £21.22 £21.22 PSU, desk top, regulated, UK plug, I/P 2

Tried it last night and it didn't get any power to the classic - I will pop to my local version of RS this weekend with the amp and find one that does - not sure if that helps ?

I've got the mail at home from Norm of headsave which gave me the part number for the correct one, I'll try and remember to post it later.

Admittedly though, that part number above looks VERY familiar...

RS Components part # 400 - 7011. is the one Norm recommended to me.

BTW, nearlly ready to order the Headsave myself, but Norm has just told me only black cases until January. What is your opinion on the colour, i.e. if I were to sell it on, would one or other colour be more popular?

    Cheers

Yep, 400 - 7011 - I suspect there must be a problem with the supply or amp if its not coming on...

As regards the case, personally I prefer the old one to the new one. The old one just seems a little more "minimal" looking, with a plain black case, silver front with switch and silver knob, blue LED.

The new one is silver all over i think, different knob, headsave classic writing on the front, power switch moved to the back.

Thanks for the RS Components part number for the PSU, it would appear from other postings that this is the one the majority of Headsave Classic owners in the UK are using.

Will order that PSU from RS.

common - Did you buy it direct from Norm or second hand? If you bought it direct, what was the service like and did you get stung for inport duty? Also is it the new classic if so what colour case did you go for?

    Questions...question.... :)

IMO the CD3000's and Ety's will work best with the OPA637 (IIRC) opamps and the DT440 will work best with the AD8620 opamps.

What do you think of the 580s when used with the Classic. I'm tempted to get some or some 600's because i did like them when i heard them.

Don't know yet, not heard the combo, buying blind. (amp largly on your rave reviews Mr Birkett :D ) Seriously, I need one amp or another, to connect to my newly aquired sound card. I think the Headsave is reasonable cost especially with the £ v $ at the moment and given that I've only heard good things and that Norm does an opamp combo specifically quoted as being good for use with Sennheiser HD range, I thought go for it. The only problem is that due to Norm waiting on parts, I can't get it til January so got to sit tight till then :( I'll give some feed back in the new year

    Cheers

Croc, I have just heard that Headsave has closed there is a notice to this effect on their website.

Apparently Norm was overwhelmed by the numbers of orders for his products, all outstanding orders will be completed and he will honour existing warranties.

It is sad he was a great guy to deal with, like yourself I ordered the Headsave Classic which should arrive before the end of this month depending on Norm's present workload.

    Further information:-

    http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=100856

I wonder what other headphone amplifier matches the Headsave Classic for price, build quality and sound?

No doubt he will prefer to work on his existing orders rather than spend time wading through lots of email which he is no doubt receiving at this time! :)

I know he was awaiting on a delivery of the 'aluminium' cases which he was expecting on January 3rd and he would then start building the amplifiers, as I ordered and payed before Christmas I was at the top of the list.

It is just a case of waiting for the amplifier to arrive.

.....Yeh I think you're right and I must have just got in under the wire. I ordered on the 6th and I think he closed the book on the 10th. I'll probably not see mine for a couple of weeks...still so long as i get it I'll be well happy.

I wounder whether these last view will become sort after. Norm won't have built that many to the latest MkII design as he only changed middle to end of last year I think. Amps to cherish :)

Mighty glad I got off the fence when I did to place the order

Hello Croc, just to let you know that my Headsave Classic arrived this morning, Norm sent it off on January 7th.

It is a beautiful headphone amplifier and looks elegant sitting on a smoked glass shelf on my equipment rack.

I have just plugged it into my NAD amplifier to try it and it sounds absolutely superb despite having connected it to the amp using new interconnects which require a 20-hours burn in time.

I feel lucky to have managed to obtain the Classic before Norm closed shop.

Harryo that's great  I must admit I'm getting touchy at the moment, I actually just e-mailed Norm because I haven't seen mine yet and the last time I spoke with him he reckoned that it would ship on the 13th. What courier did Norm ship with and what services did he use? Also did he send you any tracking details or anything?

    Anyway fingures crossed

The headphone amplifier was sent via the Canadian Postal service and you will not have a tracking number. Mine took 11-days to arrive which I thought was quite good going.

According to a UK Customs sticker on the package there was supposed to be an additional charge of £11-23 (Import VAT £7-23 and Royal Mail clearance fee of £4-00). I was not home when it was delivered and apparently no payment was requested.

Possibly I might receive a proper invoice for the above amount, I know in the past that I have received an item sent via DHL couriers and then received an invoice about a month later requesting payment for import and customs clearance fees.

The last parcel that I had sent from a guy in Canada took 5-weeks to arrive!

I think Norm is just concentrating on getting all the amps built by no later than the 24th January and then shipping them out as soon as they are ready.

Dealing with email enquiries might be somewhat slow during this period and I had no prior knowledge that my amplifier had shipped on the 7th January.

Shame to hear he's closing shop. I'm still using my Go-Vibe regularly.

I wonder if he will release his schematics, PCB masks etc.

 My amp arrived today  Problem is, it has the wrong Opamps in it. It's been shipped with the standard package instead of the 8620/10 combo. :thumbsdow Also being pedantic, the volume knob is a plain one. I was expecting a "soft touch" aluminium one (with the rubber on it) as specified. Which one have you got Harryo? Maybe he was using up old stock since he's folding? Further being very pedantic it's got a red LED instead of a blue one. I think I'm about to test Norms famous customer relations record. :(

    Cheers
