I have just bought an EOS 300D and an slightly disappointed that my Sigma 28-200 lens is not compatible (i get an Error 99 when I try to use it).
Can anyone recommend a compatible Caon lens with a bit more zoom than the supplied one

Send your lens back to Sigma and get it re-chipped. Virtually all Sigma lenses that are EF mounts will work with a 300D or 10D but some will need to be re-chipped as changes were made by canon since the release of the lens.

Chipping typically costs around £30, so I'm told, and should mean that your lens is then 100% compatible. Certainly a lot cheaper than buying a new Canon lens!
