Next gen - the rest I've not had time to watch EVERY episode. I'll probably 'get into them' more once I've got the DVDs and can watch them at my leasure in order

Hard this one but if pushed would go for tng. Have enjoyed all of the series in the startrek universe. Enteprise is looking good as well but didn't vote for since it's only just getting established. Should have another poll when this series is finished . It'd be interesting to see how Enteprise holds up when the series concludes (whenever that maybe).

DS9 is the King of Star Trek. It deared to be different and have proper drama between the cast memebers. A nice story arc and some brilliant supporting characters, I still wonder why this is so under rated in trekdom.

You is some ways you answered you own question, it was different.

Most of the episodes were base in DS9 and it was only in later stories did they go anywhere. The other in the ST universe the ship could move anywhere and not only meet new life forms on other planets but in space. Also some of the favourite scenes are space ships having a battle. DS9 could do this less often.
DS9 must have had my favourite anti-hero in the ST universe which was Eddington who ran rings round Sisco most of the time.

That’s why I posted a thread on captains.

And it took that long because it had to run its allotted seasons.

I stared the vote and I haven’t made my mind up on this or the Captains one.
I think it will come down to the Original or Voyager.
Voyager had some very good stories and the premise was good yet as with most of the modern series had a lot of duff ones.
On the other hand Star Trek may have not had the really brilliant one of stories of Voyager but was more consistent in the action and for its time ahead of the others.

Tied between TNG and Voyager, but since I grew up with TNG and as my Avtar shows, TNG gets my vote.

I maybe in a minority of one but I can't stand the Original Series. I didn't watch it as a kid so maybe thats the reason?

I find some of their movies watchable (2 and 6) but, generally, hate it. Which is strange because I think all the other series (and films 7 onwards) are great (haven't watched Enterprise yet - waiting for the DVDs).

For there time the original series was brilliant TV you must remember that they did not have the technology back then that the had when STNG came along or anything like their budget. One of the stories ‘City on the Edge of Forever’ won an award, which was wrote by Harlan Ellison.
If I remember rightly it was the first TV series to have an inter-racial kiss.
As you say you did not watch as a kid so if you saw STNG it may look old fashion albeit set in the future.

Had to decide between Voyager and original series.

I am afraid that half-naked brawls, exotic alien women, bands of light across the eyes and sets that wobbled won.

The best part was watching how the extra in the red suit would get killed, never pays to be in security!

Star Trek will never beat the old series IMO. A time where imagination was always encouraged rather than over the top special effects.

    original series for me.
Just how many women on that crew did Kirk get a piece of?

Every episode of TNG I've ever sat through felt like it was 3 or 4 hours long. Not good.

Ditto as mentioned and yes I have voted for the Original Star Trek.

Don’t forget the wigs used in ‘A Private Little War’ I do not know about:rotfl: more like:rotfl: and die with laughter.
And not forgetting the cylinder countdown dials.
I was stunned in the ‘By Any Other Name’ when a male and female security officers were tuned in to there component parts and one was destroyed and one was returned and it turned out the female was killed, but then again Kirk got of with the enemy female alien.:D

DS9 for the fact that it was different, although I have watched and liked/loved the other series too.

I enjoyed the fact that the characters drove the series in DS9 rather than the space battles or exploring new worlds made of polystyrene rocks and pot plants :D

    DS9 gets my vote.

The original is fun, but only when viewed as comedy, not as sci-fi.

TNG had its moments, and Patick Stewart is splendid, but with hindsight it was almost more of a transitional phenomenon. You forget just how atrocious the first two seasons really were. "First Contact" was a lot of fun, though.

There were some very good episodes of Voyager - the ones involving the Borg, particularly - but there was too much padding.

DS9 has the best overall level of acting ability in the principal characters, the best semi-regular characters (Garak, Wayoun), and scripts that actually qualify as good thrillers or even adequate dramas when you strip away all the Trek-related nostalgia. IMO it also benefits enormously a) from having characters who actually argue with each other, and b) from having an underlying storyline that moves on from episode to episode, which is much more satisfying than everything happening in isolation.

    ?!?!?!

Let's try and stay focused on reality, shall we?

Can no one look beyond the cheap sets and dated f/x and see the quality of the original series? Particularly in the first season and a good 60% of the second (let's try to forget the pain of the third season, made when the studio had decided to kill the show).

Some of the leading figures in SF literature contributed outstanding scripts for that series - Harlan Ellison, Norman Spinrad, Theodore Sturgeon, Robert Bloch, Richard Matheson, David Gerrold - or maybe Nicolas B doesn't consider them serious SF writers?

The show won several Hugo and Nebula awards for best dramatised SF as well as The Writer's Guild of America Award for best television drama of 1967 ("City on the Edge of Forever" - even in it's emasculated version one of filmed SF's finest moments).

Fine though some later incarnations of Trek were, despite their glossy production values and state of the art f/x, I can hardly think of a script that approached the sheer literacy and imagination of some of the original series' finest episodes.

Isaac Asimov, speaking after the first season aired, described the series as the finest example of pure Science Fiction ever filmed. Do you think he might have known what he was talking about?

I had to vote for TNG. Fine though the other series were. I didn't grow up watching the original series, voyager had to much padding eg:- episodes about Kes or such, which detracted from stories with real driving plots. DS9 was prob my second favorite, it could be really slow at times with some thin plots but the acting was good and the way that the story grew across the life of the show was certainly its best point. Enterprise looks good but I keep missing it so I havent got into it yet.
TNG was always on sky one at 5pm when I got in from school (showing my age here). I guess it my favorite because it really captured my imagination.

For me it is definitely DS9. I'm always a fan of the huge space battles which DS9 had tons of in the last few seasons.

Definitely not Voyager, it was OK when 7of 9 appeared, but too many of the episodes were complete crap. Especially when they feature Chakotay.

Loved the Voyager episodes with Brad Douriff  . One of my fave actors.

Voted for TNG but it was close with DS9. Liked both for their different viewpoints.

Liked them all except Voyager and am probably the only person who thought the best thing about Voyager was the opening credits? Too many poor repeated storylines.

    Has to be DS9!

Bar from the first 3 series, or when the Defiant was introduced this series is the best. The best actors in the whole of star trek. Comeone you can't beat Garak. This guy deserves a spin off.

Has to be DS9 for me. The first few series are quite boring (though it's worth watching just for Terry Farrel). But once the Defiant turns up, along with Worf, and Sisko looses the hair and grows a beard, it starts getting interesting.

I find Terry Farrell both boring and thoroughly unattractive, with the single exception of the "alternate universe" version of Jadzia who was much sexier (possibly because they let Ms Farrell use her own breasts for once).
