    Hi Guys,

I'll be buying a sub soon, to make it a Christmas present for my husband and I'm a bit puzzled which one to choose: KEF TDM45B or Paradigm Servo 15?

I understood that both could be bought around £300?

    Which one would you recommend?

    Or any other ideas?
Time is running out... All ideas most welcome!

    Thanks,

    Julia

    Keep dreaming! :D

One thing's for sure, now that Richers have stopped selling the Servo 15, it's most definitely going to go up in price in the second hand arena, so I can't see it being available for anything less than £450-£500.

That said, it's still worth it at the price :).

    Many thanks for your help.

    Now I know I want a Servo 15:) .

I tried to contact Richer Sounds as yesterday I was told there was still one left on London Bridge, but now it's gone and they try to sell me a Tannoy RSub-15 instead.

Anyone has any idea how I could still buy a Servo 15?

    Thanks,

    Julia

Julia - your only hope is to open a Wanted thread in the classifieds, or keep an eye out on Ebay and the rest of the Second Hand arena...

Thanks, Dimmy. That's a pretty dim hope...;).

It's hard to believe anyone would part with their Servo 15 just now before Christmas...

I understand that Paradigm Servo 15 has been discontinued and it cannot be bought new anywhere in this country (please someone tell me I'm wrong!).

So, if Servo 15 has been discontinued, can someone tell what is the model that replaced it? Surely Paradigm must have built an even better one? (another wishful thinking;) ).

    Any ideas welcome.

    Thanks,

    Julia

Paradigm didn't discontinue the Servo 15, but Richer Sounds (the only UK Paradigm Retailer) stopped importing it, so it wasn't 'replaced' with anything.

WHATEVER YOU DO, Don't go to richer sounds for an alternative, they'll sell you something awful.

There's already one there Phil ;), but CYRUS wants to sell it as part of a package with his celestions, and I've already put an offer in on it anyway.

    They started selling SVS now?

(Bit of Xmas banter - before any SVS owners grab the rattle)

THX 1138, thanks for your help and for giving me some hope. And if you know more, just drop me a PM:)

I'll keep my eyes peeled all the time! But if by any chance that servo appears when I'm not awake, I hope you guys are not going to snatch it too quickly:D :D :D

I cannot imagine why Richer Sounds don't want to sell it anymore if it's such a good subwoofer and there are plenty of buyers. Besides, I've found the Tannoy they suggested at £100 cheaper at Peter Tyson
    £289.90 see at

    Thanks

That IS pricey in comparison to how much a few have gone for recently (around the £450 mark), and how much you paid for them...

But I dare say, they're still worth it when you consider how much would have to be spent to 'better' them ;).

Good look with the sales matt, unfortunately I won't be putting offers in at those prices :(.

    Smurfin,

Thanks for your post and I wish I could spend more than £400 and I know that your Servo is worth the asking price. Probably by tomorrow they will be gone already....

    Fred, you're absolutely right!

    Regards,

    Julia

Absolutely, for movies alone, they're a bargain at the price you're asking.

I do imagine you're hoping to upgrade to the HSG-18 because it's Significantly better than your Servos? (I haven't been fortunate enough to hear it for myself). And I assume, if everything works out and you do get hold of it, you'll be posting an in depth 'review' on this very forum ;).

I'd have offered the prices you're asking Matt, as I still think they're great at that price, but it's creeping into REL Storm territory, and my listening is heavily music biased...

Whoever gets hold of one or both of your servos will be more than chuffed :).

    Hi Dimmy
Why dont you get a svs sub which Ian J did to replace his storm which he says outperforms the storm in movies and music.
I also think the svs is good with music and i have heard a few subs which are reckoned to be good with music.
    Cheers Gonzo.:)

Did Ian J not have the Original Mk I storm? I think he had two of them.

The SVS has been suggested to me before, but, with being 17 and all, first of all I don't have a 'Visa', and getting hold of the sub aswell as the whole 'warranty' factor does worry me.

Getting a REL from the Sevenoaks down the road is invariably more 'convenient'.

    Dimmy :).

    Hi Dimmy
Ian J owned a mk1 and mk111 but not at the same time. You could always get somebody to order it on their card and then pay them cash. The pc-i models are decent subs which you could get for around 500 quid all in.The warranty is for 3 yrs and to be honest theres only 2 parts that would need replacing and thats the amp and driver which can be changed quite easily and the after service from svs is second to none.
    Cheers Gonzo.:)

If you're interested I will have a custom built SVS 'clone' for sale in the new year. It will be built by our resident forum woodworking wizard Taz using one of the finest 12" driver's available, the Adire Audio Shiva and one the best sounding 200w plate amps available, the Adire HS200. I haven't auditioned the latest Storm but I have auditioned IanJ's SVS and from my initial listening tests with the prototype I would be surprised if you favoured the Storm.;)

The finished sub will be similar to this but slightly smaller at 39":

Dunno if it will happen tbh Adz, I freely admit the servos are pricey so not sure if they'll sell, if I don't get the asking prices I won't be selling as I'm not prepared to pay any more for the HGS-18. And I'm not sure if there will be ANY difference between duel srvo 15s vs a single HGS. Would like to own that beast though:)

TK2001 is a really good bloke Matt.

You can certainly push the HGS-18 to the edge of sanity & i've no doubt it will keep the smile on your face.

I still wish i had mine if i'm honest

Please not. This particular subwoofer has been reviewed to death by it's original owner.
