All I have is Midtown Madness 3 (came with the console I might add).

There are loads of racing games out there, but I want to get one that will grip me as much as Gran Turismo did on the PS.

Can anyone help me out here.

    Cheers

    Si

Depends what kind of racing is your bag, and if you're after online modes or not. Offline, Project Gotham 2 is the Daddy, many modes and stuff to unlock, loadsa cars. Online TOCA Race Driver 2 is the king, with loads of modes, excellent real life race tracks, damage that affects your car and generally just good fun.

I'd go with PGR2 - no other game has had me as hooked since Grand Turismo :)

Forza isn't out yet - due out early-ish next year. Although the recent demo that was available has done nothing to really whet my appetite - hope the final game is a lot better.

For arcade racing games burnout 3 as suggested is superb fun.
Other than that both TOCA 2 and PGR 2 are up there for more "simulation" type games.

Project Gotham Racing 2 - the ONLY racing game worth its salt on the xbox, and if you have live you really can't be without it. Yeah the other games mentioned (toca, Burnout) are good games, but PGR is simply AWESOME

Not too sure if this either of these are your cup of tea but both of the Moto GP bike racing games are more than worth a try. Loads of upgrades / unlocables for lastability and quality simulation / arcade quick race modes make either of these two of my favorite racers on the X box, oh and both of them support Live too :) .

    Burnout 3. No question.

Nothing else comes close to being as fast, smooth or as playable. I've yet to have a person I know say anything bad about it...(except for when I whoop their butts). :smashin:

Er, I've yet to play it online without getting really frustrated. Constantly getting error messages/laggy play. Very poor. Funny as every other game I've played has been fine (except FIFA - hmm, EA again - coincidence? no!).

    Get PGR2 mate.

The only thing simular to Gran Turismo is Sega GT, but its not as good.

Forza is looking promising mind, but you could die waiting for the bloody thing to arrive.

Well if youre after something along the lines of Gran Turismo then i wont recommend Outrun 2. But its worth mentioning as its my favourite racer on the xbox, being a fan of arcade racing games. Much prefer the feel of Outrun 2 to Burnout 3. Arcade racing at its finest :) Also, Rallisport 2 is excellent!

Is PGR 2 worth trying? Considering that i hated Metropolis Street Racer on Dreamcast i havent bothered with either PGR game. Is it more of the same? Really dull, narrow tracks with metal fences all around and a terrible soundtrack? If not, i might have a look :)

PGR2 imo is an excellent racing game. I didnt like the first one but got really hooked on the second. There is so much more to do than just racing cars, there are hot laps, cone challanges, speed camera etc one on one, also you earn kudos to swap for other cars and each car can be specific to a course.

It is not an arcade style racer like OutRun2 but at the same token it is not a racing simulator.
I also really like Rallisport 2 which is more arcadey but also very excellent.

Burnout 3 all the way, I can not go back to PGR2 now it just seems to pedestrian compared to BO3. When the on-line features to work it really is a very good experience. The off-line game will keep you going for ages as well some of them gold medals are fiendishly hard.

PGR2 still has the street tracks yes but they seem wider and therefore much better than the first one.

Oh and the soundtrack is customisable so put some good music on your xbox and listen to that.

I'm enjoying Outrun 2 at the moment. Great arcade racer. Though PGR2 is more of a long term prospect. Some of the challenges start to get a bit repetitive in O2.

What about Colin Macrae 2005, is that any good?

Bought PGR2 for just £13.99 delivered from www.dvd.co.uk

Might be worth picking up Burnout 2 cheap/2nd hand. Top game.

    Arcade

    Burnout 2 + 3
    Outrun 2

    Serious

    PGR2
    Rallisport 2

    Maybe

Only thing about PGR2, is that I'm useless at it at the moment. Any advice/tips? :)

its an oldie but an absolute GEM that can be had for nowt these days, and its colin mcrae 2003. simply the greatest all round rally game yet.
this is my opinion ofcourse, but for the price youll pay it shouldnt really be a huge concern even if you dont like it.
    (but you will  )

Practice, practice, practice. Once you know the tracks in your head it makes it alot easier. The only tip i can offer is to know your braking points and remember slow in, fast out (the ladies love it). And try to learn to race Edinburgh - Princes Street East as a lot of the Edinburgh tracks have some or most of this track in them. Time Attacks also help to learn tracks without the distraction of others getting/knocking in your way.
