Which is better for music?
any thoughts welcome... thanks.
I had a yamaha and sell it because its bad for music,
Now I own a pio ax5i now and its much better.
The VSXAX range are much better with music but there's not much difference in the two you state, go have a listen.
FWIW, I bought the Denon 1804 over the Yam 640 mainly because I thought it sounded better for music, so I'd recommend listening to the Denon too.
i'd second the 1804 being good with music
I've had a Yammy 640, a Pio (can't remember which) and a Denon 1803.
If I remember correctly, the Denon was the only one that I considered really listenable with my favourite chunes.
You could buy a budget AV Receiver that has Pre-Outs and buy a dedicated stereo amp too, then run the Pre-Outs for the front left and right channels to the stereo amp. For CD playback hook the cd player directly to the stereo amp. This combination will give you the best of both worlds.
Hi-Fi Choice have an article this month (March) which sees the £250 Sony STR-DB790 wipe the floor with a Creek and Roskan Kandy stereo amp.
They also claim it is better than the much more expensive, Pioneer AX3 and Denon 2803.
All tests were conducted blind.
I've never heard the amp though, but the test is an interesting read
