What length were those for £20. A 2m good quality from Molex costs just over £20, 5m is around £35. IMX these are fine.

    In comparison a 2m BetterCables costs £66. ;)

No idea of which brand? That seems a reasonable price to pay for a medium quality cable I think.

You say both bits of kit have DVI connectors yet you ask for a DVI to HDMI cable?

If your player applies HDCP to its Digital Output (always with HDMI and sometimes with DVI) then you need to ensure your Display is also HDCP compliant.

You don't need a 'High End' cable you need a well manufactured cable - as KraGorn says a relatively low cost Molex 3m DVI cable will do the job for under £30.00.

A 3m BetterCables DVI cable will be nearer £80.00 and our tests have shown the heavier conductors and less 'resistant' cable used by BetterCables degrade the signal less than the Molex cables - see http://www.bettercables.com/2me6febecadi.html

There are plenty of even costlier DVI and HDMI cables - though I've yet to see any that warrant the extra cost.

Always worth trying out the various options before you purchase.

    Best regards

    Joe

I can only back up what Joe says, he allowed me to demo some DVI/HDMI cables and there was a performance gain from bettercables against Molex, but anything more expensive (up to three times more) there was no gain over the 2m I was testing.

A bettercables unit would give you as close to high end as you'll get and you're not paying crazy money.

thanks for all your response guys, much appreciated.
I have a philips lcd tv which has a dvi input which is HDCP compatible.
The marantz on the other side has HDMI only. So i suppose i will need a HDMI to DVI cable. Is this correct ??
I will try a few sensible money cables and settle for the cable that gives me the best value/ best pictures.

HDMI2DVI sounds like it will be ideal for your set up.

You may have to 'tell' your Player to switch on its HDMI Output - its not always an automatic connection when its DVI at the other end of the cable.

    Best regards

I picked up a Supra HDMI 2 DVI cable to use from my Denon 3910 to my Samsung LCD (using the HDMI end on the Denon). Worked like a charm and set me back about £45.

Ironically @ the time Sevenoaks and another specialist outlet said they didn't exist. Sevenoaks said it could get one made up specially (for £100) and the other shop said I'd never get it and I'd have to get an HDMI-HDMI and an adaptor. Pointed out that they do exist and that Supra and Monster sell them, only to be told "We don't sell them". So basically with that store, if they don't stock certain manufacturers products, well they clearly don't exist.

Talk about snobby attitude eh ?

Anyway can't knock the Supra - although pale blue cable isn't the most attractive ;)
