I hope I have posted this in the right section.

I need to put my entire DVD collection on my PC. Therefore I need to know what format to change it to so the file size is fairly small but still good quality to view.

Many thanks in advance

This is a massive topic. It really depends what other DVD features you want to retain, for example menus and extra/bonus features. You can convert the main movie to DivX format, or MP4 etc. Digital Digest dot com has many articles explaining how to do this with free software.

Or you could just rip the whole DVD (Video_TS folder), which will give you lossless quality and all the menus etc.

I think some MKV wrapper tools allow for menus/subtitles etc now. Again Google should be able to help you there.
