Hi,
I am planning to buy a portable external hard drive up to £50, I want it to be powered off the USB. I have never bought one so could you advise me on the purchase? What kind of size (in terms of inches) should I be looking for?

I really want something between 100GB-200GB to store couple of movie files and documents. Maybe a Linux partition.

Ive had lots of these , they have never let me down yet ,

WD My Passport 500GB Portable Hard Drive - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

its only 13 quid more for the 1TB version , much better value for money that way.

500GB is really your starting point for capacity , the nature of the hard drive manufacturing cycle means that anything smaller in capacity is actually more expensive than the 500GB model.

Example here of a 320GB costing more than the 500GB above
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Dig...1-1&keywords=B002GU0XPE|B002COI60I|B002TOVAOK

500GB to 1TB is currently the sweet spot in terms of price per GB.
