Looks like I'm going to need a DVD-ROM to do some uni work, but seen as it gets me another step closer to having the components to building a htpc it may end up in one.

    The main requirements are:
    Price
    Reliability
    Easy to make Region Free

I could really do with ordering this tomorrow, I was looking at either the Pioneer DVD-120 or the Liteon 16x (doesn't seem to have a model number any more - did I hear the LTD163 was replaced with a cheapo from another manufacturer?). My current Liteon CDRW has problems reading certain cd albums and other discs which an old matshu****a drive can read fine, so i'm not sure if this will have the same problems?
I'm also not sure how easy these are to flash to MR.

Any suggestions or comments much appreciated.

Make sure it's a 120S, I believe the recent RPC firmware for this drive only works on the S model.

Have a Liteon drive in my HCPC here....pretty quiet and no read problems so far.
Also slows to single speed when playing back CD's/DVD's which reduces the noise levels considerably.
