Parents want said machine as a gift and I was wondering if there were any recomendations out there.

Can pick up the Sharp DVRW250H machine for under £200 at Empire direct.

Anyone familiar with this model or have any other recommendations.

Obvioulsy they want it form DVD/VHS playback and recording duties (including VHS to DVD).

Nothing to flashy/complex either as me Dad says :)

Panasonic DMR-E75 or DMR-ES30V as they have twin tuners for simultaneous recording, one touch dubbing in either direction and have a time base corrector which improve DVD copies from VHS tapes.

My sister just bought a ES-30, and I set it up for her. Very easy to set up and use and quality is impressive, it even copies NTSC videos correctly. Twin tuners are great and dubbing in either direction is really easy. I'm sorry, I haven't tried any other machines, so I can't give you any comparative information.

At least three of my local (Surrey) Shop@Panasonic outlets have got refurbished E75s at around £200. I think you get a one year guarantee with them too ...

I am very pleased with the JVC DR-MX1S but it is probably too "flashy" as it also has a 160Gig hard disc with dual tuners. One tuner is dedicated to the VHS deck and the other records to either the Hard disc or the DVD/DVR-RAM/DVD-RW.

The Panasonic's do this every 5 minuted on DVD-R or you can set your own on RAM.
