I'm looking to buy a dvd recorder with hard drive for £250-300. I want to record from freeview , normal tv and maybe Film FOUR. I narrowed my choices down to the Panasonic DMRE50 @ £299, lg 5045 @£250, JVC dr mh20 @£250 or a Pioneer @ £250 (cant remember model number). I've heard the Panasonic wins it for reliabilty and it's Ram capability but isn't it an old model? It's also the dearest - please advise.

I have a Panasonic DMRE50, I think it's very good. All the basic functions are pretty intuative. For a bit more money you can get the one with a 400GB hard drive. Have a look at the Richer Sounds site.
I particularly wanted the ability of recording to DVD RAM disks as they can allegedly be recorded to up to 100,000 times. I bought an LG disk drive for my PC. This disk drive reads DVD RAM disks, so I can transfer the files to my PC. So I have a Sky+ - scart - DVD recorder - scart - TV arrangement. (Scart cables give the best quality recordings.
