My Sony DPNS900V dvdplayer and Toshiba dvd-r/dvd-rw writer on my pc.

I'd prefer all three to be compatiblle. My sis has the phillips dvdr70(+r/+rw) dvdrecorder and my dvd-r copies play on it fine.
Will the dvd+rw discs off the phillips play on my Sony standalone dvd player though?

Have a look at the online database at www.dvdrhelp.com (have a look at the DVD players section). You can search for your player and see what success other users have had.

Generally speaking DVD-RW/-R are more compatible than DVD+RW/+R based on the tests on www.cdr-info.com
