Why not wait for the Denon DVD-A1?

    Proposed features:
    THX Ultra
    DVD-Video
    DVD-Audio multichannel
    SACD multichannel
    HDCD
    Firewire digital video/audio out
Progressive scan (hopefully PAL as well as NTSC)

Oh, and a £2000+ price tag

That's what I'm doing - or do you need it immediately?

If you want good CD playback, and amzing video quality the go for the Arcam fMj DV27. (£1,600)

It looks especially good in black.

Mark, have you heard anymore about the A1 recently, as it seems to have gone a bit quiet. Everything you mentioned seems definite and I would be very surprised if you couldn't upgrade the firmware to give you PAL progressive like the 2800. The only features that I understood were not 100% guaranteed were SACD and the firewire. Any more info would be very appreciated especially regarding a final price and release date. This is the perfect partner to the A1SE and it would really have to go pear shaped to put me off now, just look at the reviews of the 2800. Boogie man, sorry if we've sort of hijacked your thread here but you have our recommendations. The Arcam 27 that retro has mentioned is also sound advice and I don't think has received a bad word. But If you can't convince the wife about the cost, then the 2800 would probably be the best move. Good luck with whatever you go for.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go near Techtronics. You have been warned.

Not a lot yet, but the chassis seems based on the THX Ultra DVD-5000, and it would appear that the Coaxial and Optical digital input is present.
The A1 was only a demo unit at the Japanese show earlier this year – I'm hoping for some more news soon.

This unit could be just what the doctor ordered. It would go very nicely with my AVC-A1SE. All I'm hoping for after that is a gold Denon DAB tuner and I'm well away!

    Boogie Man,

I'm on my third player from Techtronics. The first two were perfect but the latest one (at a cost of £1250!) was faulty out of the box. Two repairs later and over 4 months down the line I've still got a faulty player. Like I said, you've been warned.

    Aren't we all though!

I keep ringing Roger and asking him is they are planning on going DAB soon but get no response, so lets just all hope. If they do I expect 2 models, one in the gold range and one for us budget users, no more than £200 I hope.

At lest Linn will have to get a DAB tuner going now, they've actually had DAB radio in Southern Scotland since October now.

One more thing about the DVD-A1 – it looks like it will have a 108MHz/12bit video processor.
