The 'retail' price for the Denon AVC-A1SE upgrade here in the UK is £600. This includes the dealer's margin, Denon's margin and the cost of transportation to and from the dealer in specially commisioned 'flight cases', fitting/testing by Japanese technician and finally the actual board itself. I see that some Australian dealers are offering the upgrade for $1,000(Aus) instead of the Denon recommended $1,500(Aus).

There would appear to be a great deal of 'meat' in this £600 cost so which dealers are offering the best upgrade prices?

    Regards

    Jim :)

As far as I'm aware, DENON make no money from the upgrade whatsoever. The price of £600 is the R.R.P. that the outlets will be charging includes their margin and transportation only.

Excuse me Jim and Reiner, having spoken at length to Bob and Roger from Denon at the HCC awards, the £600 is cost. I asked if the guys could do it at cost for me and if there was any margin to shave off they would have done. But there is no margin.
I think you'll find it's going to cost everyone in the UK £600.

Hmmm! So if £600 is the Retail AND Wholesale 'cost' then the THX/Gold dealers are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts? In that case I must hang my head in shame for even thinking of % off. Hats off to Denon UK and their THX/Gold dealers. It's not often in this day and age that one sees such selfless devotion.

    Regards

    Jim :)

PS This is from another forum and, yes, I do know that the US situation is *slightly* different. BTW the RRP in the US is $800:-

Has anyone managed to get a deal on the 5800 upgrade price yet? And if so, could you please indicate the discount.
I would like to know what to shoot for in negotiations.

dealer cost is $500. If you have a good relationship with a Denon Dealer $600+ shipping is a reasonable amount.

Thank You for the info. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth; but, could you explain the reliability of that $500 dollar number? How reliable is that? Thanks again.

Yes - $500 is the dealer cost as listed in the 2002 Denon Dealer product brochure.
