    Hi,
I'm looking for a video capture card to replace my UK Panasonic DMR-E100H dvd recorder. I'd like it to be able to record from both PAL and NTSC tapes to dvd. I'd also like to record in high dvd quality, 10 megabits per second or more.

I have a powerful 3mhz AMD chip, massive hard drive and 1 gigabyte of DDR RAM.

    Thanks for any help

What are you wanting to capture? Analogue TV etc or from a DV camcorder.
A firewire card will capture from a digital camcorder and any standard card costing around £20 will be fine. firewire aka ieee1392 or DV
If you want to capture analogue then you need a USB2.0 capture device from the likes of Belkin, Pinnacle, Dazzle etc and these cost from around £40 up.
Either of these will capture both PAL & NTSC, but if you want to convert from one to the other you will need some fairly powerful & expensive software.

    Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have a Sony PAL 60 video player and my dvd recorder does'nt like PAL 60. Are there any cheap pure pal converters? If not, could you please recommend a PCI card for analogue capture.

    Thanks

If it were me, I'd look at the capture software first, and then see which cards my fav software supports. It's the ease of use which would sway me as much as the quality of the capture.
