Which cables first?

I am putting together my AV system at the moment and my question is where should I be putting my money to get the best value with cabling? I have the following equipment, Pioneer 812 Receiver, Panasonic TX32PS10F TV, crappy DVD player which will be upgraded, Wharfdale Diamond 8 front speakers and WH2 rear speakers and gamecube.

The mains cables are all standard and are fed from one power board which is a cheapy supermarket brand, speaker cables are 4mm2 monster cable lookalike with gold plated banana plugs and the interconnects between the receiver etc. is all scart plugs or standard cables that come with the components.

Where should I start? Any advise would be appreciated on which cabling I should tackle and some suggestions on what to do.

Thanks

Glen

According to Russ Andrews (who is not God and so could be wrong) the best order is:

Mains
Interconnects
Speakers
Stands

Personally I've done everything except the mains!

I would say that a decent scart lead between DVD Player and TV should be the first on your list but probably not until you have upgraded the player.

I'm very sceptical about some claims made about cables and interconnects but I did notice the difference on my Sky box when I changed the mains cable from the one supplied to one made by Mark Grant, and that wasn't particularly expensive.

i've found the biggest differences are with scart/picture cables and analogue interconnects, digital interconnects seem to make no major difference once they reach a fair level.
Mains cables we don't sell but i can see why they would work.
Stands make a huge difference but once you use a fairly good one they don't appear to get much better with price.

Thanks. Once I get all the equipment here I will work out exactly what interconnect cables I need and start with these.

Just on the stands, I assume you mean speaker stands, with this I have the diamond 8.4`s on the floor and the WH2´s are wall mounted. The Diamond 8 central is sitting on the TV and I am going to just use the rubber feet provided to sit it directly on the TV, Any comments on this?

Thanks
