    Hi
I'm thinking about getting broadband, BT do a basic pack for £15,99 for 3 mts then £17.99 after, it's only 1 gb download a month, is this enough for general browsing. I don’t download much I just don’t want to keep waiting for the pages to download. If you go over the 1 gb they charge you extra.

virgin gives you 2 gb download for £17.99

    Any help is appreciated.

Oh yea what firewall should I purchase this pack doesn’t have one.

    Thanks

I've just signed up with Wanadoo. £17.99 per month, free modem etc. 1mb speed, 2gb download (I think). Just got to wait for a few more days for them to set up my line then I'm away! Wahoo!!!

I have signed up with Demon.net, £19.99 unlimited for 512k speed, modem supplied. The unlimited is worth every penny.

Pipex is a good provider but a bit more expensive. Exceptional service though imo.

Another vote for freedom2surf, works a treat and quite cheap, they're also top of most of the tables at ADSLGuide.org.uk

However, Prodigy are offering 2Mbit/s 2GB/month for £14.99 now so maybe that's the way to go...

Don't wanna upset people but over here in Canada I have just signed up for a 5Mbps d/l 800 u/l , no limit broadband with Rogers. The price $38.95 p/m, that equates to about 17.00GBP. Boy, talk about rip-off Britain!! :suicide:

    Not fair :nono:

I am paying £34 per month for 1mbps no limit downloads, with Pipex, top ISP but we have to pay too much....

Look at www.ispreview.co.uk for help with choosing a broadband package

    Pipex for me.
Been with them for a number of years and had great service, usually in the top ten for download speeds as well. However not that cheap and don't seem to be offering anything new for existing customers to make it worthwhile to upgrade to 1mb or more.

Why do you have a look at the ADSL Guide, http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/compare.asp it gives you one place to look and compare all the different service providers. One of the important things to look at apart from the price and monthly download limit is that of who provides the backbone interface to the Internet.

In the UK I think we only have a handfull of companies that have invested in the really big pipes to the internet and these are the ISP you should be looking at.

No one's mentioned Eclipse yet. I use them and think there the best, top support from them. Just remember that the smaller companies like Eclipse or pipex only offer support 9 to 6 but then again the big boy's like Wanadoo have crap support anyway. Also don't forget to check if your limited to a 12 month contract with the ISP like mobile phone providers. Means you can't change easily if your not happy.

Don't choose on price alone :suicide:

As recommended have a look at Pipex, I have been with them for 3 years and very happy now.

Take a good look at ADSLguide before choosing :smashin:
