Please could someone recommend to me a broadband ISP. Currently I'm with Nildram using a 2Mb professional line across a network. Soon, I'll be switching to a line with just me on it.

I'd be grateful for suggestions for a reliable service from a reputable provider. Minimum speed must be 1Mb, though I'm more than willing to hear out offers of 2Mb.

If possible I'd like to avoid companies that force a 12 month contract, but it's not a necessity.

Sorry if this seems a bit lazy of me  . It's just that I'd prefer advice and suggestions from people who have first hand experience of a service rather than statistics and sales talk from ISP advertising.

    Thanks.

Nildram has been perfect for me (512k service), only had around 2hrs downtime in 2 years that i have noticed , ping is also very good with it (around 20-30).

Has it not been too good for you? also apparently the 512k and 1mb service get a better ping than 2mb if its not been that good for you.

EDIT: nildram has a 3 month contract

Don't get me wrong. Nildram has been good for me. Virtually no time at all over ten months.

It's just that I'm trying to look for a few alternatives. If I can't find any other alternative I'll just stick with Nildram again. They have a nice 2Mb service for £58 per month.

If your looking for advise on adsl then visit http://www.adslguide.org.uk/
Here they have speed charts so you can see which isp's are topping the charts. They also have a comparision chart, to save you having to visit the many individual sites.
I am with Eclipse and they appear in the top 2 nearly every month, reliability is excellent. The contracts are monthly.
Zen are supposed to be pretty good as well. I have friends who use both of these. I cannot really comment on others but I have heard Pipex are good.

I've had pipex adsl for about 18 months now and I'm a very happy customer (512 down 128up). When I signed up there was no time limit specified and I only think they have one in place (12 months)now if you get the free modem and filters etc. Never had any connection issues and I always get good pings for online multiplayer games too. After a friend pointed them out to me I also would recommend pipex as above.

Good value for money service, their support site is very helpful and also their technical helpline has been helpful. Nice that they let you know how long you can expect to wait on hold for - so you can know which is best time to call

    I'm with Telewest. I think it's a 12 month contract, but I haven't had any problems.

I get 750Kb for £25 a month, which seems quite reasonable to me :)

    Pipex 1MB here

Pay £27.99 not sure on current price as that was a price for existing customers who switched to 1MB

Speeds are always excellant and downtime is non existant.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Pipex is looking good at the moment. Just need to get on the phone to BT and get the new line reconnected.

    Thanks again  .

I have been with Pipex for just over a month now and its been brilliant.

I was going to go with Nildram but Pipex offered from connection, modem etc etc and a slightly cheaper rate so i went with them.

The adslguide website is very handy, def worth looking at

    £18 for 512 capped @ 2G
    £28 for 512 capped @ 15G

You can get better services completely uncapped from many other providers at better prices.

+ its one of the most slated off providers on most adsl forums and sites ( under its early name of FreeServe )

Comparison of Wannado, BT, NTL against Nildram, Pipex, Plusnet

Pipex is superb. I was with them for 25 months and had no problems and they email you if there migth be somedown time from thenselves or BT. Ive now changed to ZEN www.zen.co.uk as I looked on adsl guide and found they were rat4ed higher than Pipex. More expensive and they make you do your own payment every month  .Very fast for a 512meg line though :D
